Appearance(s)

I'm built tough, you know. A little too much is just enough for me.
— Hector, to Eliwood.

Hector (Japanese: ヘクトル Hector) was the father of Lilina, and previous marquess of Ostia. He was also a close friend to Eliwood, as well as being Uther's younger brother, who served as the marquess before him. In his first appearance, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, he was brutally wounded by Narcian and Brunnya, and was thrown in a cell beneath Castle Araphen, and, despite being saved by Roy, succumbed to his death. He was eventually succeeded by his daughter Lilina.

In Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, the prequel to The Binding Blade, he is one of the three main characters of the game, along with Eliwood and Lyn. He first appears in a house in Chapter 7 of Lyn's tale, in which he says Eliwood is late for their regular sparring. Later, he appears in Chapter 12 of Eliwood's route, in which he arrives from Ostia to help Eliwood find his father. Alternatively, in Hector's route, he appears in Chapter 11, in which he is sneaking out of Ostia to find Eliwood. Afterwards, in both routes, he leads the army throughout the rest of the game.

Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade

Role

Hector is the leader of the Lycian League Army, Marquess Ostia, and the leader of the Lycian League. He is the father of Lilina and is friends with Eliwood. He and his army is overtaken at a base on the border of Lycia early on in the game, though Roy does rescue him. Hector survives the torture, but sustains major wounds and dies after the battle. He gives Roy the order to lead the Lycian League Army.

After hearing the news, Lilina is deeply upset, but she knows she must stay strong.

Hector is playable on the trial maps after beating the game three times. He is a general.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

Hector is a fine filler Trial Map unit. His capped defense is great, and the extra Brave Axe and lance rank to use a Brave Lance would mitigate his speed issues, but without it he may not double many enemies. His skill is solid, but his capped constitution means he cannot be rescued.

Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade

Role

As The Blazing Blade is a prequel to The Binding Blade, this game has Hector as a teenager twenty years before the events of The Binding Blade. In this game, Hector is Eliwood's friend, who helps him on his quest to defeat Nergal. He first appears in Chapter 7 of Lyn's tale in a house, saying that Eliwood is late for their monthly sparring match. (Although Hector says that he spars with Eliwood once a month in this chapter, their C-support says that they spar once every two months.)

He then appears in Chapter 12 of Eliwood's tale from the north to help Eliwood defeat some bandits. He accompanies Eliwood to help him find his missing father Elbert. However, after they find that Elbert is dead, their journey's focus switches to defeating the Black Fang, a mysterious organization whose leader killed Eliwood's father. Hector, Eliwood, and Lyn lead their forces together to defeat Nergal, the leader of the Black Fang.

In Hector's tale, Hector is the main character. In his version of Chapter 11, he escapes from the castle of Ostia from his older brother Uther, the marquess, to go find his friend Eliwood. He then finds Eliwood at the same place in Chapter 12 of Eliwood's route. The story is largely the same, but Hector is the primary main character instead of Eliwood. Additionally, he goes to several more places than Eliwood.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Hector is widely regarded as the best of the three lord units in The Blazing Blade. While his base stats are not spectacular, they are sufficient to let him contribute, and his great strength and defense growths mean that he will quickly rise as one of the best units in the early game. His speed is unspectacular, but most enemies have poor speed so this is rarely a problem after he gains enough through level-ups. His Wolf Beil, while still impacted by The Blazing Blade's double effectiveness, does enough damage to potentially one-shot enemy cavaliers and one-round enemy knights. He can wield Hand Axes giving him the ability to attack at 1-2 range, something that the other lords lack. He also has weapon triangle advantage against lances, allowing him to easily deal with Cavaliers, Soldiers, and Pegasus Knights. All three are common enemies in the early game, and Hector does well against them.

Hector's promotion is one of the weakest in the game. While he gains moderate stat increases, he does not gain any more movement, the stat he needs the most. His low movement is his biggest weakness, causing him to fall behind in the action. Being the main lord in Hector's tale compounds this, as it results in him needing to be rescue-dropped closer to the seize point, during which he cannot fight. This isn't a problem in Eliwood's tale, but then his movement becomes a bigger problem as the enemies will be easier and he doesn't get a free deployment slot. He gains access to swords, but axes are generally his best weapons before and after promotion. Even in Eliwood's story, Hector cannot promote until a little more than halfway through the game, and in his own story, he cannot promote until very late. Hector also has very high Constitution, especially after promotion, which makes it hard to rescue him. Even most mounted units cannot rescue him, so it is hard to rescue-drop him.

Overall, Hector is a fantastic melee unit and stands out from the other main characters in the series. While his late promotion and low movement hold him back, he is still more than capable of taking care of himself at any point in the game.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Role

Hector is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the Fire Emblem character set. Along with Sigurd and Eliwood, Hector is one of three main characters characters to not have a paid DLC version of himself available. Hector is also present as an enemy in the second and third installments of the Smash Brethren DLC series.

As with several other legacy characters in Awakening, there is a unique weapon named for Hector available through the Barracks or event tiles: Hector's Axe.

Fire Emblem Heroes

Main article: Hector/Heroes

There are eight different variations of Hector available in Heroes.

Personality

Hector has a quite reckless personality, which shows in many of his conversations. He is never afraid to speak his mind, and often can be quite blunt because of this. However, he still cares greatly for the others, such as when he tells Florina not to cry[5], or when he tells Serra that he will be her family.[6] He is quite enthusiastic about fighting and sparring, [2] He trains very hard with to improve his axefighting skills. Hector lets his emotions get the best of him at times; for example, when Leila is killed, he vows to destroy all of the Black Fang, since he doesn't know who killed her.[7]

In Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, Hector is the younger brother of Uther, the current marquess of Ostia. He is a close friend of Eliwood, the son of Elbert, the marquess of Pherae. Oswin, an armored knight, and Matthew, a spy, are two fighters from Ostia ordered by Uther to help him; Hector considers them close friends. His parents are dead from illness, which is why his brother is the current marquess. Twenty years later, in The Binding Blade, he has a daughter named Lilina. He vows to protect her until he dies, and early in the game, he is killed by Zephiel, the king of Bern.

When Hector and Eliwood were young, they were with other young lords in a room waiting for their parents, who were pledging oaths. As a warrior's custom, he cut his hand and shook the hand of Eliwood, who had done the same. [8] He and Eliwood have been sparring every two months since they were twelve, with an almost-even record of wins and losses.[2] They are in disagreement over the win and loss records, but they have had either 30 or 31 matches, meaning that they are probably seventeen years old.

Main article: Hector/Bond conversations

As an Emblem, Hector does not have any support conversations. However, upon reaching bond level 5, 10, and 20 with any character, he has short bond conversations with them instead, which unlock the next bond level. Increasing bond level provides a variety of bonuses, such as raising the stat bonus Hector provides to synchronized units, inheriting weapon proficiencies, unlocking new sync skills and engage weapons, or extending the duration of each engagement.

Fire Emblem Character File 064: Hector
Gender: Male Estimated Age: 30s Title: None Origin: Lycia
Status: Marquess of Ostia Weapon: None

Lilina's father; a marquess known for being full of heroism.

Marquess of the Lycian League's leading power, Ostia. Honoring his pledge to the Lycian League, he concentrated his forces in opposing Bern. His army was defeated, and he himself was captured by Bern while suffering a grave injury. Though Roy's forces came to his rescue, he entrusted the future to Roy with his last breath. He appeared like he felt he had given rise to someone who had betrayed him.

Hector held a meeting to amass Lycian League forces at Castle Araphen, located just north of Pherae. However, half a day before Roy's forces arrived, the Bern wyvern riders, led by Brunnya and Narcian, stormed the castle—annihilating the army. Hector was caught, confronted by Zephiel, and then thrown into a prison. Roy and his army had arrived late, but Hector managed to convey information about Bern and their dragon resurrection to him. With his last breath, he entrusted the Ostian Army and his beloved daughter Lilina to Roy.

Fire Emblem Character File 083: Hector
Gender: Male Estimated Age: Teen Title: General of Ostia Origin: Lycia
Status: Marquess Ostia's Younger Brother Weapon: Axe (Special: Wolf Beil, Armads), Sword

The younger brother of Marquess Ostia who boasts great strength.

The younger brother of the new Marquess of Ostia, Uther. Despite being the younger brother of a noble, he has poor court manners and so leaves things to his brother and goes about doing as he likes. However, because of this, he cannot be on equal basis with his older brother. The young Prince of Pherae Eliwood is his childhood friend, and so Hector helped him on his journey to locate his father Elbert, Marquess of Pherae. Though a little rough compared to Eliwood, he is a good-hearted young man.

Occasionally, Hector acts with reckless conduct, leaving his subordinates frozen in fear. However, his true strength that earned him the title of "general" is unmistakable. From the time they were children, Eliwood and Hector would occasionally have contests and were evenly matched. In a very interesting conversation with Eliwood, Hector talks about a dream he had that is hinted to be the future. He saw a girl with blue hair and a boy with red hair—coincidentally matching Roy and Lilina from "The Binding Blade".

English

Hector

Hector is a masculine given name, likely from the Greek ekhein meaning "to check", restrain". In Greek mythology, Hector was one of the greatest fighters in the Trojan War.[9] May also come from an alternate name for Ector, the adoptive father of King Arthur. This connection seems likely due to the Elibe games being heavily inspired by Arthurian Legend.
