If you want harsh, try living in the shadow of someone who's perfect at everything. Trust me, it's a NIGHTMARE. Everyone loves you and respects you and thinks you're pretty and smart and strong. I'm just a pile of dog food...
— Severa, to Cordelia

Severa (Japanese: セレナ Serena), also known as Selena (Japanese: ルーナ Luna), is a playable character in Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates. The daughter of Cordelia from the future, she traveled back from the future to aid her mother and Chrom in their war against Grima.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Role

Severa grew up living in the shadow of her mother, Cordelia. Because of Cordelia's talents, Severa felt forced to live up to her expectations and developed low self-esteem as a result. One day, Severa got into an argument with her mother over who she was truly fighting for. Cordelia replied that she was fighting for someone important to her; Severa assumed that person was Chrom, whom Cordelia had an unrequited crush on. Severa would later regret this argument, as Cordelia was killed shortly after it; she inherited her mother's ring as a memento.

Severa traveled back in time with Lucina and her friends in order to try to avert the bad future that Grima created. However, all of them were separated. Severa's ring was stolen by Nelson one night while she was asleep. She chased him to the Mercenary Fortress, where Nelson forced her to work for him in exchange for the ring. Severa also befriended Holland, a villager also forced to work for Nelson in order to support his pregnant wife. Severa had another plan: get her ring back and convince Holland to run free.

Chrom and the Shepherds arrived at the Fortress upon learning about Nelson's crimes. If Cordelia speaks to Severa, Severa will express disdain at her mother's love for Chrom. If Chrom speaks to Severa, he will offer her to join the Shepherds to help her get the ring back. Regardless of whoever speaks to her, Severa will inform them that she wants to speak to Holland first before helping the Shepherds. If Severa succeeds in speaking with Holland, she will be recruited. If Holland is killed before Severa has a chance to talk to him, she will ponder that families never stay together and will become an enemy unit with no chance of being recruited at all.

After Nelson is defeated and Severa retrieves her ring, Cordelia shows her her own ring, which is the exact same ring her husband gave to her. Severa calls her mother out for leaving to fight for Chrom, but Cordelia reassures her that her future self was fighting for Severa's sake. Overcome with guilt, Severa tearfully tells Cordelia to never leave her again.

Fire Emblem Fates

Role

Some time after the events of Awakening, Severa travels to the land of Nohr, at the request of a sane fragment of Anankos, alongside Inigo and Owain. The three take on new names and appearances, granted by Anankos, who even alters their hair colors, and serve under different members of the Nohrian royal family; Severa takes on the alias Selena (Japanese: ルーナ Luna), and serves under Princess Camilla.

Her mission is to find the child of Anankos and guide them towards defeating the now insane Anankos and restoring peace across Hoshido, Nohr, and the Invisible Kingdom. Said child is Corrin, though Anankos is unable to reveal this due to them being under attack at the critical moment, so she is unaware of the identity of his child.

Despite her mission, she does not accompany Corrin in all routes, as she only joins in the Conquest and Revelation campaigns, she is an enemy in the Birthright campaign and does not join in that route. She is fought in Chapters 13 and 23.

In the Conquest campaign, Severa arrives in Chapter 10 alongside Camilla and Beruka to help Corrin fend off an invasion from Hoshido spearheaded by Takumi.

In the Revelation campaign, Selena and Beruka follow Camilla in Chapter 12 to fight Corrin's army under Garon's orders. Corrin defeats them, and spares their lives, asking Camilla to join them. She agrees, and Selena and Beruka join with her.

Selena appears in Beach Brawl and Royal Royale, where she appears in a team with Camilla and Beruka. In both chapters, her team can be selected to be played as, and will appear as enemies if they are not selected.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Selena is a level 10 Mercenary starting in Chapter 10 of Conquest, and Chapter 13 of Revelation. Her stats are great. Her HP is a little low, but her strength, skill, and speed are great. Her defense and luck are not as good, but her resistance is actually pretty decent. Her growths aside from magic, luck, and resistance are all balanced. She starts with a D in swords, which is okay for her join time, but she needs to build it quickly to get access to steel and killer weapons. Her personal skill, Fierce Rival, lets Selena crit with a miss chance if her pair up partner initiates combat and crits.

Selena great growths means that she can use all of her classes to great effect. Hero gives her more powerful axes, Sol for a life steal effect, and Axebreaker for a bunch of hit and avoid against axes. For growths, it only increases her HP growth, and reduces her resistance growth. Bow Knight gives her more attack range with bows, and gives her a mount with more movement. For skills, it gives Rally Skill to help out her allies, and Shurikenbreaker for more hit and avoid against shurikens, which can be helpful to avoid debuffs. Bow Knight only increases luck and resistance, but reduces her strength, skill, and defense, which is not great. For promotion bonuses, Hero only slightly bests out Bow Knight with more stats overall, as Bow Knight's bonuses are lower aside from resistance and movement.

Her reclass option is Sky Knight, which is great for more movement, but growth wise is not as great as Mercenary and its promotions. It reduces her HP, strength, and skill growths, but gives increases to her luck and resistance growths. The two promotions of Falcon Knight and Kinshi Knight continue to have worse growths than her main class tree, with the main draw being high movement. Falcon Knight is not great for her since the only increased growth is magic, and she will not do well with using staves. Kinshi Knight can be a fine class with its high movement and increased damage with more powerful lances, but reduces her strength growth further to 35%, and has worse promotion bonuses compared to Falcon Knight. Falcon Knight's skills are fine, but not necessary. but Kinshi Knight's are okay at best.

As a mother, Selena passes good increases to HP, speed, and defense growths. All the other ones are relatively low, making her somewhat of a poor mother growth-wise. Passing the Mercenary class tree or the Sky Knight class tree is the only good part about her. Marrying Silas gives Sophie the Sky Knight class tree, which gives her a useful utility class of ferrying units around, especially with having unimpeded movement. The same goes for Corrin, but only if his talent was Mercenary, and he could potentially be better off having a Sky Knight talent instead. Laslow also has this attribute with Soleil. Marrying Subaki is really just to have the novelty of having Caeldori be Selena's child. For the last viable one, Hinata and Hisame both gain Mercenary for another sword-fighting class to not have to lose their sword rank when reclassing.

Fire Emblem Heroes

Main article: Severa/Heroes

There are three different variations of Severa available in Heroes; one of which features her as Selena. In addition, Cordelia: Unyielding Snow features her as Selena as a Harmonized Hero alongside Cordelia.

Personality

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

At first, Severa is snarky, rude and condescending to nearly everyone around her and is not above manipulating others into doing what she wants them to. She is, however, capable of feeling guilty for her past actions and apologizes to those she has wronged.

Having grown up with being unfairly compared to her mother Cordelia, Severa has always felt that she has been living in her mother's shadow. She cites this as a reason for her initial negative attitude towards Cordelia, but later confesses that she distanced herself so that she would not have to go through with the possibility of losing her mother twice.

In Fire Emblem Fates, Severa loses much of her rudeness and appears to have matured somewhat, although just like in Fire Emblem Awakening, she is still a wasteful shopper. However, she has developed a need for competition with anyone who possesses a notable skill.

Whenever thanking or helping an ally or friend, Severa has difficulty admitting her true feelings and in the case of the latter, she will often insist that it was for her personal gain and not out of the goodness of her heart.

Endings

Awakening

Severa, Secret Dreamer (single ending)
Eager to shrug off any kind of intimacy, Severa began a solitary journey—but once a year she was said to visit her family and yell at them for old times' sake.

Robin, High Deliverer & Severa, Secret Dreamer
Many wrote of Robin's legendary exploits, but accounts of his origins and character varied. Scholars, poets, and bards agreed on one thing alone—he loved his wife, Severa, above all else.

Owain, Chosen One & Severa, Secret Dreamer
Owain set off on a lengthy quest with Severa to "stay his sword hand." Though Severa nagged her husband mercilessly, she also provided much love and support.

Inigo, Flower Picker & Severa, Secret Dreamer
Inigo traveled the world, ever ready with a smile or a solution when trouble started to brew. Severa was a vocal opponent of working for free, but she stayed with Inigo and helped him realize his dream.

Brady, Daunting Priest & Severa, Secret Dreamer
Brady left the priesthood to become the world's scariest violinist. Severa would roll her eyes and gripe about the noise, but the dew in her eyes after a touching melody was perhaps the more honest critique.

Gerome, Masked Rider & Severa, Secret Dreamer
Gerome and Severa were married and settled down near Wyvern Valley. Severa had a knack for landing mercenary work, and as a fighting duo, she and her husband became known throughout the land.

Morgan, Gift from Afar & Severa, Secret Dreamer
Morgan's memory never returned, but he didn't seem to miss it much and lived happily with Severa. Later, scholars would speculate he had come from a different future than the other children.

Yarne, Timid Taguel & Severa, Secret Dreamer
Yarne tried desperately to find a safe haven after the battles were done, but even that journey was fraught with danger—especially as Severa continued to take on dangerous jobs to make ends meet.

Laurent, The Elucidator & Severa, Secret Dreamer
Longing to meet his mother's intellectual standards, Laurent took his wife on an expedition around the world. Severa set out in search of treasure but instead discovered something much, much greater.

Corrin was hailed as a hero, working alongside his spouse to spread peace worldwide. After marrying, he and his wife, Selena, disappeared from records. They likely lived happily ever after.

Arthur, Hapless Hero & Selena, Cutting Wit
Arthur returned to his true calling, justice. Scholars believe his luck improved slightly after the war. After marrying, he and his wife, Selena, disappeared from records. They likely lived happily ever after.

Odin, Aching Blood & Selena, Cutting Wit

Niles, Cruel to be Kind & Selena, Cutting Wit

Fire Emblem Cipher

Severa is featured on twelve cards in Fire Emblem Cipher, five of which depict her Nohrian identity, Selena.

Concerning the cards depicting her Nohrian identity of Selena: As both this Selena and a The Sacred Stones character with an identical English name have both featured in Cipher, there are a number of schemes devised among the fandom in order to differentiate the two. As this Selena first appeared in Cipher before the The Sacred Stones Selena did, the full card names of the corresponding cards in the below box will treat this Selena's name as simply "Selena" much like Asugi, Deen, Linde, and Claud are treated in official Japanese Cipher parlance as they appeared in Cipher prior to Gray, Deen, Linda, and Claude.

January 21st was also the release date of Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 on cartridge in 2000, though the game had previously been released on the Nintendo Power subscription service a few months prior.
  • Severa's English alias for Fates, Selena, is derived from her Japanese name in Awakening, Serena.
  • Selena's pauldron is available as an accessory in My Castle.
