I have been raised to prize honor above victory. That is my homeland's way. Win or lose, it is essential to uphold standards of dignity and fairness. We must be like cherry blossoms, blooming only at appropriate times.
— Kagetsu

Kagetsu (Japanese: カゲツ Kagetsu) is a playable character in Fire Emblem Engage.

Biography

Kagetsu is a royal castle soldier of Elusia and a retainer to Princess Ivy.[2] He was born in a secluded region in the Pale Sands in Solm, and was the successor to the head of a high-ranking noble family.[3] He left his home and traveled to Elusia in search of strong opponents and to learn more about the outside world.[3]

Fire Emblem Engage

Role

Kagetsu is a playable character. Following his master, Princess Ivy, he and his friend Zelkov fought against Alear for some time, but in the Shadowy Moor, the three joined up with the Divine Dragon's army. Upon granting the rings of the Princess Exalt and Lady of the Plains, Ivy, Kagetsu, and Zelkov began to fight alongside Alear with the ultimate goal of reclaiming Elusia from the control of the Four Hounds.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Kagetsu is arguably the single best physical unit in Fire Emblem Engage. Coming in with 17 Strength and 22 Speed, he can already one-round enemies, even in Maddening. Swordmaster is unfortunately a poor base class, but Bow Knight and Wyvern Knight are both excellent choices that will make him a massive boon to any player, with little to no investment. His personal skill Blinding Flash and absurdly high dexterity allows him to hit even dodgy enemies and use less accurate weapons consistently on player phase.

His bases and growths require little explanation, with his mediocre strength being his only issue. A reclass into Bow Knight or Wyvern Knight (when Ike joins) can mitigate his strength woes while keeping his high Speed and Dexterity.

Emblem wise, Kagetsu can use almost every non-magic focused emblem in the game well. Marth is taken at an unfortunate time, but Kagetsu can use him late game, allowing him to easily quadruple if he breaks. For the midgame, Ike is probably his best option. His only OK bulk is boosted with Ike's buffs, letting him take a surprising amount of attacks on decent dodges without engaging, and Great Aether can deal massive damage coming off his high Strength. Lyn can be useful for her speed-stacking buffs but in many cases this is overkill. Eirika is great as well, giving him extra damage and self-sustain, plus a powerful engage attack. Kagetsu will excel no matter what emblem he chooses.

Overall, Kagetsu is one of the strongest physical units in Engage, and one of the best units in the game.

There is one variation of Kagetsu available in Heroes.

Personality

Kagetsu is bright, energetic, and friendly.[2] Though some people perceive his affability to be ingenuine at times, he is honest with his feelings and does his utmost to be a fair person.[3] He loves to battle against powerful opponents both on and off the battlefield, desiring to challenge Diamant and Timerra in friendly competitions[4]. Since his mother was a shrine maiden, Kagetsu has the ability to predict the future, though his predictions are often trivial, such as being able to foresee upcoming weather.[3] He loves onigiri the most out of all soldiers in the army.[3]

Endings

Onigiri Samurai Kagetsu
Kagetsu disappeared after Ivy's coronation. Some said he was off searching for a worthy opponent. In fact, he had gone home to ask his family's permission to live in Elusia and serve the queen.
Working under Ivy, he still made visits to Pale Sands, returning each time with the gift of rice.

Divine Dragon Alear & Onigiri Samurai Kagetsu
Alear became the new Divine Dragon Monarch. His/Her bonds with the rulers of each nation resulted in lasting peace.
Kagetsu made the holy land more accessible by welcoming every visitor to Lythos as a dear friend. He and the new monarch were often seen going out together.
