Hostilities

Queen Lumera (Japanese: 神竜王ルミエル Divine Dragon King Lumière) is the second chapter of Fire Emblem Engage. It consists of a mock battle between Alear and their mother, Lumera. While not clearly stated in-game, fallen units will safely retreat and remain available for the rest of the playthrough, even in Classic Mode.

Plot

Main article: Queen Lumera/Script

At Lythos Castle, Lumera welcomes Alear back to their home. She explains that the monsters the others fought before are the Corrupted, corpses brought back to life by Sombron's fell power, and that their return heralds his reawakening. After thanking Marth for aiding Alear, Lumera leads them to the Ring Vault. She explains that it holds six Emblem Rings—those of the Holy Knight, the Sage Lord, the Azure Twins, the Princess Exalt, and the Instructor—while the remaining six rings were entrusted to the other nations to keep them safe. Furthermore, she tells that the twelve rings can grant a world-altering power to whoever holds all of them, that this power was used to seal away Sombron, and that wicked people seek the power for their own ends. Alear and Lumera then briefly discuss how the Emblems are summoned, with Alear saying that they used an invocation to do so with Marth. Lumera then asks them to fight against her in a practice battle.

In the gardens of Lythos Castle, Lumera summons Fabrications to fight alongside her, whom Alear mistakes as more Corrupted. Despite Alear's fears, Lumera urges her to fight on, and they succeed in defeating her after a short battle. Afterwards, Lumera challenges them to a second mock battle, wherein she wields the Ring of the Holy Knight, using a prayer to summon its Emblem, Sigurd. Alear again succeeds, to which Lumera congratulates by with the gift of her sword, as well as a special ring she had promised to give as a birthday present. Alear refuses the ring, asking Lumera to instead gift it to them after they have regained their memory. The two make a pinky promise to continue chatting next morning, after they have all slept.

At night, Lumera delights in having her child back, excited to spend time with them once again. Despite this, she worries about Alear's lost memories, and begins a discussion with Emblem Sigurd. Elsewhere, Alear laments their lost memories, wondering what life as Lumera's child must have been like.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

You recruit Clanne and Framme this chapter. Clanne is a Mage whose high base Speed gives him a strong early game, while Framme can heal, guard your allies with her Chain Guard ability, and do pitiful damage. They are perfectly functional for now, but Engage is not kind to its early joiners and you will get better options later on.

Start by having Vander weaken the Archer so Clanne can finish it off. Have Alear break the Axe Fighter and keep Framme to the south, outside of its range. On enemy phase, the Axe Fighter will attack Clanne. Note that Lumera becomes aggressive on her second turn. Have Clanne finish the Axe fighter, Framme heal Clanne, and Alear get ready to fight Lumera on enemy phase. As a reminder, Lumera will break Vander if she attacks him and will effectively get a free attack in on you. Don't let yourself get broken. On turn 3, have Clanne chip down Lumera, Framme heal Alear, and Alear finish Lumera off with Lodestar Rush.

In the second battle, Lumera moves to the north half of the map and now wields Emblem Sigurd. Immediately check her skills, particularly Gallop (which gives her Mov+5 while engaged). If you don't keep this in mind, someone is going to get skewered. The game will explain Emblem energy to you and empty Alear's engage meter to demonstrate. Have Alear weaken the nearby Axe Fighter from the Emblem energy tile, Vander further weaken it from the forest, and Clanne deal the finishing blow. Mercifully, Lumera won't attack until you get in range of the Sword Cavaliers. A Lance Fighter and Archer will approach from the northwest. Have Vander break the Lance Fighter, Alear weaken it, and Clanne finish it. Don't bother Engaging yet - you want those turns available to use your Rapier on the Sword Cavaliers. On enemy phase, the Archer should attack Alear. Boxing it in and pummeling it to death should be trivial at this point. Just keep away from the Sword Cavaliers' range. Once the Archer is down, heal up. Move Vander one space outside the Sword Cavaliers' attack range and get Alear and Clanne ready to fight. Once Lumera makes her move, have Clanne chip her down (his magic ignores terrain bonuses if she Cantered into a thicket), have Vander attack a Sword Cavalier for a free experience point, and have Alear finish the map with a Lodestar Rush on Lumera.
