Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Elise is a Troubadour who joins in Chapter 7 of Conquest. Elise has excellent magic, speed, luck, and resistance, but poor HP, strength, skill, and defense. She is fragile, but starts in a supportive class and can focus on using staves while staying away from combat. Elise's personal skill, Lily's Poise, gives a defensive boost to adjacent allies along with a slight damage boost, supplementing her healing to keep allies alive. She also starts with Resistance +2 for a slight amount of extra magical bulk. Reaching level 10 as a Troubadour gives her Demoiselle, which boosts the defense of male allies within two spaces, and can be combined with Lily's Poise for a massive durability boost.
In the Revelation route, she joins significantly later in Chapter 14 while still being at a low level and will take more effort to train up. Using staves will give her a safe source of experience, but she will be outclassed by other staff units as they will all be at much higher levels than her.
From the Troubadour class, Elise can promote into either Strategist or Maid. Strategist unlocks the potential of her high magic stat with access to tomes as a form of magic damage. The Strategist class will eventually give Elise the skills Rally Resistance and Inspiration, adding to her supportive toolkit to boost her allies even further. The Maid class is much less appealing. She loses movement and struggles to deal damage with her low strength and the low might of daggers, and she will need to increase her weapon rank twice before she can use the Flame Shuriken to deal more meaningful damage. The skills from Maid aren't very helpful to her either. Live to Serve gives her self-healing, but she's frail in healing classes and should generally avoid taking hits in the first place. Tomebreaker gives a massive hit and avoid boost against tome users, but this is usually overkill with her high resistance.
If you are willing to use one of the early Heart Seals on her, Wyvern Rider is a powerful reclass option. It may seem counterproductive to turn your low-strength healer into a physical combat class, but she will sidegrade into a different type of support unit early in the game while training to use powerful magic attacks later on. The increase in bulk lets her move towards the front lines and boost allies with Lily's Poise more often than she could in the frail Troubadour class, offsetting the loss of a healer. The boost from Lily's Poise also makes it safer to battle in Attack Stance, where Elise can now provide Dual Strikes and has serviceable damage output thanks to Wyvern Rider's high strength base, high might of axes, and the Strength +2 skill she gains after leveling up once. She has especially great synergy with Odin, as Heartseeker can improve Elise's accuracy, while Elise helps Odin as a Nosferatu Tank with either Lily's Poise or the Wyvern Pair Up bonuses. Frequent Dual Strikes help her build axe rank, eventually letting her use the Bolt Axe. With the Bolt Axe's high might and Elise's high magic, she can transition from a supportive combat partner to a magical nuke that easily 2-shots enemies. Elise's poor skill stat means her accuracy will be low, so she appreciates boosts like Heartseeker, Rally Skill, or the innate +10 Hit from Attack Stance to improve her reliability. Her better promotion in this class is Malig Knight, as it gives her a massive boost to her magic damage, along with tomes for much higher accuracy at the cost of attack power. Wyvern Lord isn't super noteworthy, as her physical damage output will suffer in the long run with her low strength growth. However, she can promote to Wyvern Lord rather than Malig Knight as a quick way to gain Rally Defense for another skill that fits her usual supportive playstyle. In contrast to how great wyvern Elise is in Conquest, Revelation isn't as friendly to this option. If Elise reclasses to Wyvern Rider, she will struggle more than in Conquest since she'll be reliant on allies chipping down enemies and providing her with Dual Strikes to feed her experience, as her physical damage output is pitiful at that point in the game. If you put in the work to train her, however, she'll still become a powerful magic attacker as a Malig Knight just like in Conquest.
Elise can also train as a Troubadour and wait for a later Heart Seal, reclassing to Malig Knight after promoting. The main downside is the lack of Axe rank, as it will be harder to train against the bulkier enemies later in the game. An Arms Scroll can help speed up the process, or you can focus on building Tome rank for spells like Lightning. Troubadour's lower HP and Defense growths will also slightly reduce her bulk in the long run.
With Friendship Seals, she can gain access to several new classes, being Sky Knight from Azura, Knight from Effie, and as a Revelation exclusive, Shrine Maiden from Sakura. However, Sky Knight and Knight are not particularly desirable for Elise. Having to build supports delays your ability to reclass and build weapon rank, and these classes have low magic stats and very few options for magical weapons. The Bolt Naginata is exclusive to Revelation and the Shining Bow and Bolt Axe will take quite a bit of effort to use without Arms Scrolls. However, if Elise built up axe rank as a Wyvern Rider early on, Great Knight can serve as a decent temporary class. Since it will stem from Knight, it will give skills that increase her physical bulk, being Defense +2, Natural Cover, and Armored Blow. Falcon Knight does let Elise use staves for easy exp, and gives her access to Rally Speed, which she can combo with Rally Defense and Rally Resistance from her native class sets, but there are better options for Rally users that take less effort to build. Camilla's support does lets her use a Friendship Seal instead of a Heart Seal to access the Wyvern class tree, giving some flexibility with item management, but this does not give her any new classes or skills, and seals become infinitely buyable with a maxed out item shop. Shrine Maiden is a perfect class that synergizes with Elise's better magical prowess compared to physical attacks, while also letting Elise keep her staff rank. This class provides Miracle, which is pretty reliable on Elise with her high luck base and growth, and she gains Rally Luck to add to her list of supportive skills. The same goes for Onmyoji's Rally Magic, where she in addition gains Tomefaire for extra damage, which is very helpful considering most of Elise's best classes can use tomes. Priestess is less helpful since she'll struggle with damage output with bows just like how she would with axes, though using two Arms Scrolls does net her the ability to use the Shining Bow. However, this class's skills aren't too helpful for Elise, as her lower bulk makes Renewal less useful in her hands, and her high resistance renders Countermagic generally unhelpful except for minor chip damage.
The only marriage options that give her new magical classes are Corrin, who can choose any class as his talent, and Odin, who gives Dark Mage. While Odin could move into position to provide boosts from Heartseeker and Malefic Aura, Elise having these skills for herself will give her more flexibility. If they marry, Ophelia appreciates the high magic stat that Elise gives her.
Overall, Elise can either be a great supportive unit with healing and a variety of skills that boost her allies, or an incredible heavy-hitter in magical combat classes such as Malig Knight.
