| “ | I was a poor orphaned wretch with dirt for food, yet Master Validar took me in. He provided when others would have watched me starve. I would never presume that he loves me... But he is everything I know of love. I would gladly die at his command. | ” | — Aversa |

Aversa (Japanese: インバース Inverse) is an antagonist, and later playable character, debuting in Fire Emblem Awakening. She is the subordinate of Gangrel, the king of Plegia, and student of Validar, leader of the Grimleal. She is well-endowed, sensual, and beautiful, allowing her to seduce men and lead them to their ruin, which is her forte.

Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Aversa is a boss appearing in two chapters: Chapter 22 and Chapter 25. Additionally, she appears as a recruitable NPC in Paralogue 22. Aversa is the only recruitable character that starts by default as the Dark Flier class.

Aversa served as the subordinate of Gangrel before and during the Plegia–Ylisse war. When Gangrel was in power, she conducted inquisitions, searching for Plegian citizens not following the Grimleal faith, and had them punished, ushering in an age of terror. She accompanied and aided Gangrel in his efforts to spark the war with Ylisse; she was with him when he kidnapped Maribelle, was present for Emmeryn's execution, and was also present for Gangrel's fall at the hands of Ylisse's forces. After the war ended Aversa vanished in the two year interim; Chrom and the Ylissean forces appear to have taken no notice of her disappearance. While it is not confirmed, Aversa may have been the one to convince Gangrel to attempt to acquire the Fire Emblem from Ylisse so the Grimleal could prepare for Grima's resurrection.[citation needed]
During Ylisse's war against Valm, Aversa resurfaced in Plegia, now openly working under her master Validar. She is briefly present during the meeting with Validar to secure their agreement in aiding Ylisse in defeating Valm. During the war with Valm, Aversa covertly offered Excellus the Fire Emblem in exchange for his loyalty; this appears to have been done in preparation for the possibility of Walhart defeating the Ylisseans so Plegia would have a way to defeat Valm from the inside out, though this proved unneeded.
When Ylisse defeats Valm, Validar begins openly pursuing Robin and the Fire Emblem to revive Grima. Aversa first directly fights the Shepherds, accompanied by the twelve Deadlords, at the Dragon's Table during Chapter 22. She is unsuccessful in capturing Robin, and the Shepherds enter the Table and kill Validar, though they fail to prevent Grima's resurrection.
Aversa makes her final confrontation with the Shepherds during Chapter 25 after they have obtained the blessing of Naga and performed the Awakening. Her final attempt to stop them from reaching Grima fails, and she appears to die in battle.
Despite her apparent earlier death, Aversa appears during Paralogue 22 as a non-hostile NPC looking for more information on her past. She has arrived at the Wellspring of Truth, fabled to reveal the true self of anyone that gazes into the waters, to learn more about herself. Upon looking into the fountain, she remembers her past before encountering Validar, and realizes Validar murdered her family and brainwashed her to believe she was an orphan he took in to use the magical potential he saw within her. Aversa then joins Chrom's forces to help slay Grima.
Additionally, another Aversa from the outrealms appears in Champions of Yore 2 and Champions of Yore 3, being the one responsible for stealing Old Hubba's Einherjar cards with her wiles. Despite her presence as an antagonist here she simply stops appearing and her actions in stealing Hubba's cards end up with no particular resolution.

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Aversa is a level 20 Dark Flier who joins after the completion of Paralogue 22 if she survives as an NPC. Due to SpotPass paralogues only being available after the second-to-last chapter in Awakening is completed, her base stats are massive, and get even stronger with each difficulty increase. Her growths are quite good as well, except that strength and defense are not the greatest, but get good modifiers when reclassing. Her mods are decent as well aside from her -1 strength and -2 luck. On the topic of her starting skills, Speed +2 is fine since the player may not end up reclassing her since she is recruited essentially at the end of the game. Relief acts as a Renewal, but with an activation of when she is not within three spaces of an ally. Rally Movement is a game breaking ability, and will definitely help in the final chapter, and due to being a level 20 Dark Flier, she has the busted Galeforce skill, which allows her to take another turn if she defeats an enemy. Aversa's main draw is her exclusive skill of Shadowgift, which lets her use dark magic tomes even if she is not in Dark Mage or Sorcerer, allowing her to use powerful dark tomes with the advantage of high movement. Her weapon ranks actually remain the same on all difficulties. A B in lances lets her use the powerful Silver Lance, and an A in tomes lets her use every tome in the game.
Since she is level 20, she must use a Second Seal to reclass in order to gain more experience. The Pegasus Knight class tree has the alternative promotion of Falcon Knight if the player would rather have Aversa fulfill the role of staff utility instead of combat, especially with the Rescue staff since it is E rank in Awakening. If the player is willing to grind for skills, Rally Speed is a great supportive skill, and Lancefaire is great for boosting damage with the weapon type she performs worse with, and making it better. Falcon Knight also increases her strength, skill, and speed growths, and only reduces her magic growth.
If the player wants Aversa to become more physically combat oriented, the Wyvern Rider class tree can do just that. Wyvern Rider itself increases her HP, strength, and defense growth, and reduces her magic, skill, speed, and resistance growths. Strength +2 is one of the better stat +2 skills, especially since her strength is worse than her magic, and Tantivy gives a small boost to hit and avoid when there are no allies within three spaces. It is generally more wasteful to reclass Aversa to a base class, especially since she is over promoted level 10, which lets her directly reclass to a promoted class. Wyvern Rider's skills are also not particularly helpful this late in the game, and she loses her lance rank in place for E axes. If the player is grinding her out, and promotes her from Wyvern Rider, Wyvern Lord gives more points of HP, strength, and defense, and gives her access to lances again. Wyvern Lord also has the same growths as Wyvern Rider. Quick Burn is a great skill for low turn count strategies, and Swordbreaker is an absolutely broken skill since it gives a massive +50 to hit and avoid against swords no matter what weapon Aversa is using. The alternative Griffon Rider supplies more points of skill and speed, but does not let her gain a new weapon. Griffon Rider also increases her speed and skill growths, and reduces her defense growth. Deliverer is great for extra movement when paired up, and Lancebreaker is the same as Swordbreaker, but the activating condition is if the enemy is using a lance.
Her final reclass option is Dark Mage, which is a great class tree for a complete magical powerhouse. Dark Mage itself increases her HP and defense growths, and reduces her strength, skill, and speed growths. Hex and Anathema, which have slightly different effects, both reduce the enemies' avoid. These skills could be worth the reclass since Dark Mage lets her keep her maxed out tome rank. Promoting to Sorcerer gives more points of magic and resistance. Sorcerer also increases her magic growth, and reduces her strength and HP growths. Vengeance can be great for a chance to add some extra damage to her attacks, and Tomebreaker gives +50 to hit and avoid when fighting tomes. The alternative promotion of Dark Knight gives more points of HP, strength, skill, speed, defense, and movement, and gains access to swords to make use of her decently high strength stat. Slow Burn gradually gives more hit and avoid throughout the battle, but it faces steep competition from better skills. Lifetaker is also similar to Renewal, but activates when she defeats a foe, and restores 50% of the damage she dealt to defeat the foe.
Aversa can only support Robin, just like the other SpotPass characters, and thus can only mother Morgan. She is an okay mother, passing good increases to Morgan's HP, magic, speed, and luck. Aversa can also pass Shadowgift in place of another skill, letting Morgan reap the benefits. Even with these positives, Aversa is sub-optimal mostly since she is recruited late.

Personality
Aversa was devout in her service to Validar and the Grimleal, she was mainly used to manipulate the cult's enemies. When she served Gangrel she did not appear to take him particularly seriously, offering him snide comments to compliment his crass attitude, which culminated in her abandoning him before his death.[4] She was willing to lay down her life when fighting the Ylisseans in defense of Validar and Grima.
Her views on the Grimleal turned around completely when she learned that Validar altered her memories to make her an obedient puppet; all loyalty she had to the cult evaporated, leaving her a despondent shell. If she joins the Shepherds she remains distant from the others, except for Robin, who she clashes with. She eventually apologizes to Robin for her secluded and aggressive attitude and agrees to strive towards integrating into the group.

Endings
Aversa, Dark One (single ending)
Having reclaimed the truth, Aversa returned to the town of her birth and started life anew as an ordinary girl—as if making up for the time that was stolen from her.
Robin, High Deliverer & Aversa, Dark One
Many wrote of Robin's legendary exploits, but accounts of his origins and character varied. Scholars, poets, and bards agreed on one thing alone—he loved his wife, Aversa, above all else.

Aversa was the right hand of Gangrel, the Mad King of Plegia, and used her influence to oppose Chrom and his Shepherds, who fought for the Halidom of Ylisse.
As Gangrel's advisor, she was the instigator who manipulated him into starting a war between the two kingdoms.
But Aversa wasn't acting entirely on her own. She was secretly taking orders from Validar—the leader of the Grimleal, worshippers of the Fell Dragon Grima!

Trivia
- Validar kidnapping Aversa for her magic is an addition by the English localization. In the Japanese script, it is never explained why Validar chose to kidnap Aversa.
- If a male Robin marries Aversa, Morgan will always inherit Shadowgift from her, regardless of whether or not Aversa has Shadowgift equipped when the player enters Paralogue 12.
- Aversa's birthday, November 3rd, matches the North American release date of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade in 2003.
- Despite not being a legacy character, there is a unique weapon named for Aversa available through the Barracks or event tiles: Aversa's Night.
