Ward (Japanese: マジックシールド Magic Shield), also known as Barrier, Reflect, or Magic Shield, is an uncommon staff in the Fire Emblem series. In most appearances, this staff raises a unit's resistance by seven points (five in Awakening), thus lessening the impact of magical attacks on them. However, the effect decreases by one point per turn. In this respect, Ward works similarly to a Pure Water. In Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, it boosts resistance for a single turn by 20 points. In Engage, it is linked to Emblem Soren and instead grants to all allies within 2 spaces of the user the ability to counter, for half damage, any magical attack from an enemy for a single turn.
The Ward staff first appeared in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, and it has been available in all games but Gaiden, Genealogy of the Holy War, Thracia 776, and Fates; it does not appear in vanilla Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, but does appear as a white magic spell learned by the Exemplar overclass. In Thracia 776, the Magic Up staff has a similar effect, boosting magic (as magic works as both magic and resistance in Thracia 776).

Trivia
- Though not present as a usable staff in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Ward makes appearances in two events: one where Julia casts it on Seliph in Chapter 9 and the other where Coirpre or Charlot casts it on Altena in Chapter 10; in both instances, it grants a permanent increase to Resistance.
