Woolner Brothers Pictures
The Woolner Brothers was an American production and distribution company primarily active in the 1960s. It was founded in 1955 by Lawrence, Bernard, and David Woolner, specializing in B-movies and financing movies made in Italy, releasing several of Mario Bava's films to the United States before Bava turned down a contract to make films directly for the brothers in 1965. After the company's final release, The Sin of Adam and Eve in 1969, Lawrence worked for New World Pictures as president in charge of sales and distribution, but left to eventually form Dimension Pictures in 1971.
Visuals: On a black background, there is a flame. "WOOLNER BROTHERS PRESENT" fades in on the right side and a pink Greek column fades in on the left. The flame remains on the top of the W in Woolner.
Variants:
- On Hercules and the Captive Women, the logo is part of the opening credits. The camera zooms in on the top of the column, and the titles appear above it.
- A Black-and-white version was used in Castle of Blood (1964).
- There is a widescreen version on Lightning Bolt (1966) where the logo is stretched to fill the screen.
Technique: Cel animation, animated by Filmation Associates.
Audio: Either the opening theme of Hercules and the Captive Women (often very crudely edited) or a different fanfare.
Availability Notes:
- First appeared on American releases of the Italian Hercules and the Captive Women, and is still seen on public domain prints. Also appears on The Human Duplicators, Castle of Blood, Lightning Bolt.
- On the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version of Hercules and the Captive Women and The Human Duplicators, as well as the Rifftrax version of Hillbillys in a Haunted House, this logo is retained.
