Ubisoft Blue Byte
Blue Byte is a German studio formed in 1988 by Thomas Hertzler and Lothar Schmitt, most famous for developing strategy games. It was taken over by Ubisoft Entertainment in 2001. Related Designs was merged into Blue Byte in 2013, and a third studio in Berlin was established in 2018. Since 2019, Ubisoft Blue Byte acts as the parent company of Ubisoft's three German studios, which became branded as Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Mainz and Ubisoft Berlin. By 2020, the "Blue Byte" name was phased out.
Blue Byte
Animated Logos
Visuals: A white box containing a blue asteroid is seen with the handwritten stacked text "Blue Byte" below, over a black background. A light is seen running through the bottom and right side of the box, before it flashes on the top-right of the logo.
Variants:
- On Great Courts 2, a navy blue rectangle containing the Ubisoft Entertainment logo is seen below.
- On Battle Isle, in the final scene of the game's intro, the player (only the hand is shown) inserts a floppy disk into a hard drive, which causes the logo animation to show inside of the monitor. The sequence takes place inside of a room with a calendar, a lamp, a trashcan, a window, a paper containing the Blue Byte logo, and a gray desk containing the aforementioned hard drive and monitor, a computer mouse, two red books and a tomato(?) juice with straw, all placed onto the desk. The last scene of the intro is then followed by the actual logo appearance.
Technique: Sprite-based animation.
Audio:
- Great Courts 2: The opening theme of the game.
- Battle Isle: In the final scene of the intro, a click when a floppy disk in inserted. None for the actual logo appearance.
Visuals: The logo from before (inside of a tan-colored plate this time) is first shown zooming out and rotating into position on a black background. After a few seconds, "SPORTS CHANNEL" in a tan bold font zooms out below the plate. The blue asteroid disintegrates after a few seconds, as a bubble bulges in and pops in place of the asteroid. Four bubbles then bulge in, revealing a yellow smiling face of a tennis ball (from the game's mascot), which zooms in towards the screen, and stays for a second before fading out.
Technique: Sprite-based animation.
Audio: An uplifting synth tune which carries over from the copyright screen.
