This article is about the Last Battle Ability from Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra. For Kirby's spaceship in the anime series, see Kirby's Starship.

Kirby's Starship is used in the Nova stage in the Milky Way Wishes game of Kirby Super Star and its remake. Originally known as the Shooting ability, it resembles a winged chariot with a star on its front and sides. It is formed by the combination of the seven stars from each planet Kirby has visited, allowing Kirby to chase down Galactic Nova as it tries to grant Marx's wish to control Pop Star. After Kirby destroys the Galactic Nova Nucleus and escapes from Nova, the seven stars leave the Starship as it turns into a Warp Star that lands on a planet where Marx is fought; this detail is made more apparent in the "To the Battlefield" cutscene added in the remake before fighting Marx. In this manner, the Starship is considered a Last Battle Ability akin to the Star Rod. In Kirby Super Star Ultra, the Starship is also used to fight Kabula, King Dedede's airship guardian patrolling the skies of Mt. Dedede during Revenge of the King; this time, the Starship is summoned by the three Sparkling Stars Kirby collected in previous stages. Once Kabula is defeated, the Starship turns into a Warp Star once again as it approaches Castle Dedede.

While riding the Starship, Kirby is capable of rapidly firing stars at his opponents using the jump or attack buttons and flying at impressive speeds. The stars fired from the Starship go forward and diagonally up and down; the forward shots can travel through the entire screen while the diagonal ones only cover a short distance. Pressing the jump or attack button once will cause the Starship to shoot stars two times. None of them are able to pierce through an enemy or wall, however. The Starship is not capable of flying through enemies but is rather much better at evading them and bombarding them with star-like projectiles.

In co-op mode, a unique Starship-based character appears as player 2's character. It somewhat resembles a mechanical bird with glossy blue eyes and a "beak", as well as exhaust pipes emerging from its back, but still retains the star-shaped design of Kirby's Starship. It controls identically to Kirby and is considered a Helper, but cannot be summoned outside of co-op mode.

In Kirby's Epic Yarn, the Starship is referenced by the similar Metamortex transformation called the Star Shooter.

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, one of the unique Keychains resembles the in-game sprite of Starship Kirby from Kirby Super Star. This keychain can be found in Lollipop Land - Stage 1.

Trivia[edit]

  • The Starship's special page in the Japanese version of Milky Way Wishes has an extra line at the end: "Let's take care of Marx's mad plan first, then eat a meal and take a nap."[1] This line has been referenced in several special pages in later games in the series, most notably with Star Dream Soul OS's final phase (only in the Japanese and Korean versions), Void Termina's fourth phase, and Void.
