Samsooth (Japanese: サムスーフ Samusuf) is an external territory of the Holy Kingdom of Archanea.[1] Like the kingdom's other territories, it possesses its own military and holds power similar to the continent's other nations.[1] Its only known leader was Bent.[1] The region is mostly infamous for bandits called the Soothsires, who reside in the Samsooth Mountains (Japanese: サムスーフ山 Samusuf Mountains), also called the "Ghoul's Teeth" (Japanese: デビルマウンテン Devil Mountain)—or simply the "Teeth".[2]

Geography

Samsooth is located the Outerlands region of the continent,[3] sharing a peninsula with Galder to its east. Its mountains act as a border to the mainland that divide it from the peninsula.[4] Northward of the mountains is the Kingdom of Aurelis.
Mistakes
The world map used in the manual of Mystery of the Emblem erroneously labeled the Samsooth Mountains region to instead be where Lefcandith Valley is placed.[5] Likely because of this, various official maps follow the title's release would use this placement of Lefcandith, which in turn caused Samsooth to go unacknowledged on these maps, such as the one used in Ape's Mystery of the Emblem guide.[6] This placement of Lefcandith Valley kept for the release of Shadow Dragon, which resulted in the Samsooth Mountains being relocated further northwest.
History
The Samsooth Mountains, for an unspecified amount of time, were known for its thieves, abductors, and arsonists, which in turn gave it the title of the "Ghoul's Teeth".[7] The bandits there also took up a name, that being the "Samsooth Sires", or "Soothsires" for short.[7]
During the early stages of the War of Shadows, Bent, leader of Samsooth,[1] turned against the Archanean royal family.[8] Caldas of Lefcandith wound up in-between Bent and the like-minded Lang, resulting in Caldas and his men being unable move and aid in the further battle for Archanea.[8]

In 604 AC,[a] Marth and his royal knights traversed the Samsooth Mountains in order to reach Aurelis and aid Princess Nyna. Caught in a skirmish with the Soothsires, Altea came out on top and the current Soothsire leader, Hyman, fell. Prior to their arrival, Lena traveled to the Samsooth Mountains in hopes to tend to the ill there.[11] This led to her being abducted by the Soothsires—until Julian surrendered his Soothsire title in order to release her and help her escape to the Altean army. The Soothsires also had Navarre in their employ during the battle, who would also leave his station after Caeda persuaded him to fight for Marth.[12]
Shortly after the War of Shadows,[13] the surviving remnants of the Soothsires from Marth's attack would formulate their base at an unspecified forest and proceeded in their ways of pillaging.[14] Eremiya tasked her assassins with a mission to quell them of which they succeeded. In spite of this, later during the War of Heroes in 608 AC,[b] the Altean League would also happen upon some Soothsires at Adria in their rush for Archanea Palace.[c]

Trivia

- It was revealed in the Fire Emblem 25th Anniversary Book that Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light was planned to have special graphics for important events in the story. While this was ultimately scrapped due to hardware limitations, the book shares a sketch of a scene that was going to be for Chapter 3: depicting Lena and Julian on the run from bandits.[20]
