— Amid, to Jake

Amid (Japanese: アミッド Amid) is a scion of Grannvale's House Friege, and the son of its late Lady Ethnia. He was raised in Silesse, left behind when his uncle Bloom came to abduct his mother and his sister Linda, eventually setting out to travel south upon hearing rumors of Linda's presence in Ulster. Travelling with Fee/Hermina, he joined Seliph's liberation army in Isaach while en route to Ulster.

Amid is Arthur's substitute character, filling Arthur's role in the story and gameplay if Tailtiu died or failed to be married in the course of the first generation.

Biography

During their journey to Ulster, Amid and Fee/Hermina made a stop to give her pegasus a rest near Isaach Castle in the middle of the fight between Seliph's group and Danann's army. When Fee/Hermina told him her story of wanting to join Seliph's army, he volunteered to join it too.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Amid joins in Chapter 6 as a level 2 Wind Mage. His base stats are on par with Arthur's average stats. Amid also has Adept, giving him a chance to attack twice in a row based on his attack speed. Since he wields a Wind tome, the lightest basic tome in Genealogy, his attack speed will be solid, giving him a decent activation rate. However, Amid does not have Follow-Up, so he cannot double enemies reliably. On the flip side, he is stuck with Wind or Elwind until he promotes, and the latter is only obtained in Chapter 9's armory, or unless Ced inherited it; consequently, he is stuck with the 8-MT Wind for a large chunk of the game; even with Adept, he will not have enough damage to one-round enemies.

Amid's growths are surprisingly workable with 40/50/40 in MAG/SKL/SPD, enough to average capping all three at Lv30. His 90% HP growth is also on the high side for spellcasters. However, like many other substitute units, he requires more resources to keep up and be good at combat. Unlike Arthur, he never becomes mounted, since he promotes to Mage Fighter and not Mage Knight. While Mage Fighter has better statistical bonuses, the movement disparity makes it inferior. His combat does become quite serviceable once promoted; promotion gives Amid the ability to use Thoron, which has enough damage to defeat most enemies with Adept, along with a +6 DEF boost that substantially improving Amid's survivability when facing multiple enemies; he may not one-round every enemy, but he will usually kill between a half and a third with Adept. However, his lower mobility limits his ability to reach the front line, and his dependency on Adept makes him unreliable when his damage is badly needed. He is also unable to inherit any skills or holy blood, while Arthur can either get Forseti or Follow-Up from his father.

Without investment, Amid is a mediocre, foot-locked combat unit with no utility. Even among substitute units, he is below average. With investment, he can become competent at combat, but will never do amazing things.

Personality

Though others easily get the opposite impression as a result of his sarcastic tendencies, Amid is kind and helpful even to complete strangers, as evidence by his asssistance of Jake when he encountered him lost in the Munster District.[1] He possesses a strong disdain for the Friege family as a whole for their abduction of Ethnia and Linda.[2]
