Sunset Productions
From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum
Sunset Productions was a subsidiary of Warner Bros. that licensed the TV distribution rights to their black & white animated short subjects to Guild Films in 1955. Seven Arts acquired these rights from Guild after the latter went bankrupt in 1961, and WB gained these rights after merging with Seven Arts in 1967.
Visuals:
- Opening: On a "sky" background, a cut-out collage of six Looney Tunes characters, including Porky Pig and Daffy Duck, is shown. On the bottom, "Copyright (year) by SUNSET PRODUCTIONS, Inc.
- Closing: The same image, but the words "THE END - A Guild Films Presentation" appear instead of copyright information.
Trivia:
- The Roman numerals used for this logo are incorrect, as the first "X" should be a "C".
- The character drawings are cut directly from old lobby cards for Warner's cartoons. Porky and Daffy are from My Favorite Duck, a Scottish rabbit from Hop and Go, the crying hound from Rhythm in the Bow, the drunk dog heckler from Shake Your Powder Puff, and an alley cat from Sittin' on a Backyard Fence.
Variant: At least two different redrawn colorized versions of the logo exist, with one having a red background and the other having a green background.
Technique:
- The whole logo is a still frame: the characters seen in the logo are ripped from lobby cards of their respective cartoons, while the background is likely a live-action photograph.
- For the redrawn colorized version, it is done on a cel sheet.
Audio: The opening theme of the cartoon.
