Peter Rodgers Organization

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

Peter Rodgers Organization (PRO) is a television syndication company based in Hollywood, California. It distributes more than 2,000 films, documentaries and television series to global markets. PRO claims to hold the largest library of films of any non-studio distributor. It was founded in 1976 by Peter S. Rodgers, who left National Telefilm Associates to form this company. At one point, the company distributed the libraries of the Caidin Film Company/Castle Hill Productions and EMI Films. Since Rodgers' death in 1988, his son Stephen Rodgers has served as the CEO of the company.

Logo (1998-)

Visuals: An object that looks like a film reel is rapidly spinning clockwise and zooming towards the screen on a white background. Suddenly, it stops spinning, and the object shifts up to make room for the company name, with "PETER RODGERS" stacked on top of "ORGANIZATION" and "WORLDWIDE TELEVISION DISTRIBUTION" below. The film reel appears to have brush strokes around it to emphasize the spinning motion. Also, three of the holes in the film reel are colored and have letters; there is a green circle with a "P" in it, a red (or pink depending on the print's quality) circle with an "R" in it and a blue circle with an "O" in it.

Variant: A short version exists, that starts when the reel stops spinning. This variant is seen on select TV broadcasts (such as MeTV) of The Rifleman. The first half where the reel is spinning is plastered by a website disclaimer for said show. Most streaming prints use the full logo.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Two different versions were used:

  • Usually, it has a synth drone that kind of has a "spinning" effect, followed by a low-pitched "crash". A rising synthesized string set can be heard as the text moves up.
  • A rapid synthesized warbling (which sounds like helicopter rotor blades spinning), getting louder as the logo gets closer to the screen, followed by a sub-bass 110hz sine wave when the logo stops spinning.

Audio Variants:

  • Sometimes, it's silent.
  • At the beginning of MeTV's print of the movie Beginning of the End, this logo has the Wheel of Fortune theme song playing over it.

Availability: It appears on the majority of programs the company distributes. It plasters over the Walter Schwimmer Distribution logo on current prints of The Cisco Kid, the 1960 or 1989 ITC Entertainment logos on American prints of The Saint, the 1995 SeaGull Entertainment logo on updated prints of Tarzan: The Epic Adventures, and the 1956 Four Star Productions logo on certain prints of The Rifleman. It is also seen on Hopalong Cassidy, The Bill Cosby Show, Movin' On, I Spy, Fifteen, as well as older cable prints of Killer's Kiss and newer cable prints of Hopalong Cassidy movies.
