Avijit Banerjee, British Dental Association, London, UK
Avijit is Editor-in-Chief of the BDJ Portfolio. He is Professor of Cariology & Operative Dentistry, Hon. Consultant and Clinical Lead, Restorative Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences, King’s College London/Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals Foundation Trust, London, UK. He holds the positions of Head of Conservative & MI Dentistry and leads the Cariology & Operative Dentistry research programme at the QS-ranked world-leading Faculty (as part of the Centre of Oral and Clinical Translational Sciences), researching, publishing and lecturing internationally about minimum intervention oral care delivery, minimally invasive dentistry, adhesive dental biomaterials, clinical trials and national primary care policy. He is a member of the British Dental Association Health & Science Committee and currently holds an Hon. Consultant Advisor position at the Office of the Chief Dental Officer, England. He has been appointed as the Chair of the Faculty of Dentists, College of General Dentistry (2024-27), chairing also its Career Pathway Board and he has been elected as President of the British Society of Oral & Dental Research (BSODR; 2025-27). He is currently the deputy national lead of the NIHR Oral & Dental Research Delivery Network (as well as the South London regional RDN lead). He is the 2024 recipient of the prestigious BDA John Tomes Medal, for his services to the oral healthcare profession and the BDA.

David is Editor of BDJ In Practice and its sister title, BDJ Student. He qualified from the University of Central Lancashire’s School of Journalism in 2006 and has gone on to work in PR and publishing. In 2017 he was awarded the British Dental Editors and Writers Forum Young Communicator of the Year Award. He likes pop culture references, 90s music and trash TV.
