Alchemy source master controls in Logic Pro for Mac

Source components are shown only in advanced view. Click the Advanced button to switch to advanced view.

In the upper-left corner of the advanced view are the six Source Mode buttons: Global; A, B, C, D; and Morph. Indicators to the left of the buttons denote the following:

  • Blue: Active source.

  • Green: Morphing turned on for the source.

  • Yellow: Soloed source.

  • No color: Inactive source.

Source Mode buttons: Click Global to view and edit all sources. Click A, B, C, or D to view and edit a single source. Click Morph to view and edit morph mode. Option-click A, B, C, or D to view and solo the source.

Selecting Global displays the source master, main filter, and master voice controls. See Alchemy main filter controls in Logic Pro for Mac and Alchemy master and voices section in Logic Pro for Mac.

Selecting the A, B, C, or D button displays the source subpage controls for the selected source. See Alchemy source subpage controls in Logic Pro for Mac.

Selecting the Morph button displays the source morphing parameters. See Alchemy morph controls in Logic Pro for Mac.

The source select field in each source that displays the loaded audio data does double duty as a level meter that shows the current output level from the source routed to the main filter section. When the output level exceeds 0 dB, the signal clips the input of the main filter section, and the level meter turns red. This is useful for quickly determining the cause of unwanted distortion.

Note: Sources can also be routed directly to the Effects section, bypassing the main filters. The level meter is shown regardless of the source output destination.

Source master controls

  • Source On/Off buttons: Turn the source on or off. Option-click to solo a source.

  •  Source Select pop-up menu: Click to open a pop-up menu with source content handling commands, or drag and drop audio files from the Finder onto the field. This field also acts as a level meter during playback.

    You can also drag and drop audio from Logic Pro windows (Main window, Loop Browser, File Browser)

    • Import Audio: Open the Alchemy Import browser in Logic Pro for Mac.

    • Load VA: Load waveform data into the VA element (Virtual Analog synthesis engine) from categorized waveform type submenus. This automatically turns on the VA engine and turns off all other synthesis engines for this source. See Alchemy VA element controls in Logic Pro for Mac.

    • Load Source: Open a dialog where you can load source (SRC) data from ~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Plug-Ins Settings/Alchemy/Libraries/Sources/.

      SRC file format data includes all source control settings and a reference to any loaded or imported audio data. Source control modulations aren't loaded as part of the SRC file.

    • Save Source: Open a dialog where you can write source data to disk in SRC file format in the ~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Plug-Ins Settings/Alchemy/Libraries/Sources/ folder.

      Saved data includes all source control settings and a reference to any loaded or imported audio data. Source control modulations aren't saved as part of the SRC file.

    • Copy Source: Copy source data to the Clipboard. This is useful for duplicating the content and settings of one source into another (even between different instances of Alchemy in your project). Copied data includes settings of all source controls and a reference to loaded or imported audio data. Source control modulations are also copied.

    • Paste Source: Paste source data from the Clipboard.

    • Clear Source: Reset the source to the default state.

    • Randomize Source: Apply random variations to source controls, depending on active elements in the source.

    • Swap With Source: Choose a source from the submenu to swap with the current source. This allows you to quickly experiment with the parameter settings of the two swapped sources.

  • Previous/Next buttons: Click the arrows to step through available waveform data without opening the Source Select pop-up menu.

  • Vol knob: Set the source output level (-inf dB to 0 dB).

  • Tune knob: Tune the source in semitone increments. A further Fine Tune control is available on each source subpage. See Alchemy source subpage controls in Logic Pro for Mac.

  • Pan knob: Position the source signal in the stereo field on the output. This parameter works as a pan control if the Mono button (a circle) is shown or as a left/right balance control if the Stereo button (a double circle) is shown. The behavior of the Pan control changes when wide unison mode is turned on. See Alchemy wide unison mode.

  • Send knob: Set the source output balance (post source filters, if used) sent to the destinations specified with the Send pop-up menu below the knob.
