Sample Alchemy synthesis modes in Logic Pro for Mac

Each source has an independent set of parameters and therefore can be set to a different synthesis type. For example, you can combine granular synthesis with additive synthesis or spectral synthesis. Each synthesis method has inherent strengths and weaknesses that make it more suitable for certain sound types than other synthesis engines.

The synthesis module in the lower section has three synth mode buttons you can use to view the synthesis engine controls and an effect menu:

  • Synth mode buttons: Choose a granular, additive, or spectral synth mode. Each mode provides a different type of synthesis.

    • Granular button: Granular mode splits sounds into small “grains” to create unique textures, from smooth pads to glitchy effects and evolving, fragmented sounds. For more information about Granular mode, see Granular effect controls.

    • Additive button: Additive mode in Sample Alchemy builds sounds by combining sine waves at different frequencies and amplitudes, providing precise control over harmonics for complex, evolving tones. For more information about Additive mode, see Additive effects.

    • Spectral button: Spectral mode analyzes a sound’s frequency spectrum, letting you adjust individual frequencies to reshape its timbre and create unique tonal changes. For more information about Spectral mode, see Spectral effects.

  • Effect pop-up menu: Choose a synthesis effect type for the Granular, Additive, or Spectral synth engines and change related parameters with the four knobs.
