Add an outline around a layer in Pixelmator Pro on Mac

The Stroke layer style adds a customizable outline around the selected layer.

  1. In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, select a layer in the Layers sidebar.

  2. Select the Style button in the Tools sidebar.

  3. In the Style pane, turn on Stroke.

  4. In the Stroke section, click the first pop-up menu and choose an outline type:

    • Color: Adds a solid color outline around the layer. Click the color well and choose a color.

    • Gradient: Adds a gradient outline around the layer. Click the gradient well and choose a swatch. To customize the gradient, adjust the color stops in the gradient fill bar.

    • Pattern: Adds a pattern outline around the layer based on a source file. To change the source file, click Choose, then import an image.

  5. Adjust the stroke width, color, and opacity with the controls in the Stroke section.

  6. Click the pop-up menu with the line to further adjust stroke options such as style, position, and spacing.
