Transform a layer in Pixelmator Pro on Mac

Use the Transform tool in Pixelmator Pro to manipulate image, shape, text, and mask layers. Not only can you use the Transform tool to resize, position, and rotate layers (as you can using the Arrange tool), the Transform tool also lets you slant a layer vertically or horizontally, stretch a layer, or change its perspective.

Resize a layer using handles

  1. In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, select a layer in the Layers sidebar.

  2. Choose Edit > Transform.

  3. At the top of the Transform pane, click the Resize button (if it’s not already selected).

  4. If you want to resize the layer proportionally, select “Constrain proportions”.

  5. In the canvas, drag any of the layer handles to resize the layer.

  6. Click Done at the bottom of the canvas to apply your changes.

Skew a layer vertically or horizontally

  1. In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, select a layer in the Layers sidebar.

  2. Choose Edit > Transform.

  3. At the top of the Transform pane, click the Skew button.

  4. In the canvas, do either of the following:

    • Drag a corner layer handle to skew the layer. The other corner handles remain where they are.

    • Drag a midpoint handle to slant two adjacent corners at the same time, with the other two corners pinned in place.

  5. Click Done at the bottom of the canvas to apply your changes.

Distort a layer

A layer in the canvas with a distortion adjustment applied, alongside the Transform pane.
  1. In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, select a layer in the Layers sidebar.

  2. Choose Edit > Transform.

  3. At the top of the Transform pane, click the Distort button.

  4. In the canvas, do either of the following:

    • Drag a corner layer handle to distort the layer.

    • Drag a midpoint handle toward the opposite side to flip the layer.

  5. Click Done at the bottom of the canvas to apply your changes.

Transform layer perspective

  1. In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, select a layer in the Layers sidebar.

  2. Choose Edit > Transform.

  3. At the top of the Transform pane, click the Perspective button.

  4. In the canvas, do either of the following:

    • Drag a corner layer handle to change the perspective vertically or horizontally.

    • Drag a midpoint handle to slant the layer.

  5. Click Done at the bottom of the canvas to apply your changes.

Important: Changing the perspective of a text layer converts it into a shape layer, so you can no longer change its font, typeface, or alignment. To transform a text layer and keep it formattable, use the nondestructive Perspective Transform effect.
