Use VoiceOver to edit notes in the Piano Roll Editor in Logic Pro for iPad

In Logic Pro for iPad, you can use VoiceOver gestures to edit MIDI notes in the Piano Roll Editor.

Open the Piano Roll Editor

  1. Navigate to the MIDI region you want to edit, double-tap to select it, then double-tap again to open the shortcut menu (also called context menu).

  2. Swipe right until you hear “Edit,” then double-tap.

    The submenu opens with “Show in Editor” as the first item.

  3. Double-tap when you hear “Show in Editor.”

    The Piano Roll Editor opens.

Move notes

  1. In the Piano Roll Editor menu bar, navigate to the Trim button, then double-tap.

    If you’re using the grouped navigation style, the Trim button is located in the Function Buttons group in the Editors area.

  2. Navigate to the note you want to move, double-tap and hold until you hear three rising tones, then do one of the following:

    • Drag horizontally to move the note to the previous or next beat or division.

    • Drag vertically to change the pitch.

      If you’re editing the notes for a drum kit, dragging vertically changes the kit piece.

Change the length of a note

  1. In the Piano Roll Editor menu bar, navigate to the Trim button, then double-tap.

    If you’re using the grouped navigation style, the Trim button is located in the Function Buttons group in the Editors area.

  2. Navigate to the note you want to edit, then swipe up or down to increase or decrease its length.

Change note velocity

  1. In the Piano Roll Editor menu bar, navigate to the Velocity button, then double-tap.

    If you’re using the grouped navigation style, the Velocity button is located in the Function Buttons group in the Editors area.

  2. Navigate to the note you want to edit, then do one of the following:

    • Swipe up or down to increase or decrease the velocity in increments of 10.

    • Double-tap and hold until you hear three rising tones, then drag up or down to make precise changes.
