Change your Translate settings on iPhone

You can customize your preferences for the Translate app in Settings. Download languages, use On-Device Mode, or choose a different default translation app.

Download languages

To use the translate feature when you’re not connected to the internet, you need to download both the input and output languages.

  1. Go to the Settings app  on your iPhone.

  2. Tap Apps, tap Translate, then tap Languages.

  3. Tap the Download button next to the languages you want to download.

Always translate offline

You can choose to always translate offline using downloaded languages.

Note: Offline translations may not be as accurate as online translations.

  1. Go to the Settings app  on your iPhone.

  2. Tap Apps, then tap Translate.

  3. Turn on On-Device Mode.

Choose a default translation app

If you have multiple translation apps, you can change the default.

  1. Go to the Settings app  on your iPhone.

  2. Tap Apps, then tap Translate.

  3. Tap Default Translation App, then choose an app.
