Output settings in Logic Pro for Mac

When Enable Complete Features is selected in Advanced settings, the Output pane is available.

Output I/O Assignments Audio settings let you set the physical output pair on which the stereo output is played, and the surround format. The Output pane consists of the following settings:

Figure. Output settings.

Stereo

  • Output pop-up menu: Sets the physical output channels on which the stereo output is played.

  • Mirroring checkbox: Becomes available when the Output pop-up menu is set to an option other than Output 1-2. Select the checkbox to route the stereo output to output channel 1-2 in addition to the selected output channels.

Note: This checkbox is only applicable to multichannel audio devices.

Surround

  • Show as pop-up menu: Choose a surround format to determine which of the 17 speaker position pop-up menus are available to be assigned to an output channel of the audio device. The pop-up menus for speaker positions that are not available for the selected surround format are dimmed. See Overview of surround formats.

  • Initialize buttons: Click one of the three buttons to determine a specific channel order (which output is assigned to which speaker position) for the surround format selected in the “Show as” pop-up menu.

The three buttons represent different standards that use a specific channel order for various surround formats. The channel order determines what speaker position is assigned to channel 1, what speaker position is assigned to channel 2, and so on. It is usually written in a string of letters representing the speaker positions in the order they are assigned to the outputs or inputs of an audio device in sequential order.

Here is an example of how the speaker positions are assigned to outputs 1 to 6 for the 5.1 surround format when you click the corresponding button:

    • Default: L - R - Ls - Rs - C - LFE - Lm - Rm

    • ITU: L - R - C - LFE - Ls - Rs - Lm - Rm

    • WG-4: L - R - Ls - Rs - C - LFE - Lm - Rm

  • Speaker position pop-up menus: Choose an output from the pop-up menu of each speaker position to match how the physical speakers in your surround sound setup are connected to individual output channels of your audio interface.
