Set channel strip volume in Logic Pro for Mac

You can set the volume level of each channel strip independently, balancing the relative volume of the tracks in your project. You can also quickly switch between two different volume levels on a channel strip.

Set a channel strip’s volume level

In Logic Pro, do one of the following:

  • Drag the Volume fader up or down.

Figure. Volume fader and level meter.
  • Option-click the Volume fader to return it to a neutral level (0 dB gain).

  • Press and hold Shift while dragging the Volume fader to change the volume level in finer increments.

The level meter, located to the right of the Volume fader, shows the channel strip output volume as the project plays. When you record, watch the level meter to make sure the channel strip volume is not too high.

Switch between two different volume levels

  1. In Logic Pro, select a non-instrument channel strip.

  2. Drag the Volume fader to the level you want.

  3. Use one of the Toggle Level of Channel Strips key commands listed below.

Note that the channel strip’s Volume fader is all the way down.

  4. Drag the Volume fader to a different level.

The chosen Toggle Level of Channel Strips key command now toggles between the two volume levels. It does so for all channel strips of the same type at once, allowing you to create two different mixes from one set of channel strips.

You can use the following key commands to quickly switch between two different volume levels on a channel strip:

  • Toggle Level of Audio Channel Strips

  • Toggle Level of Auxiliary Channel Strips

  • Toggle Level of Output Channel Strips

  • Toggle Level of Input Channel Strips

  • Toggle Level of Bus Channel Strips
