Surround MultiMeter Analyzer in Logic Pro for Mac
In Analyzer mode, the main display shows the frequency spectrum of the input signal as 31 or 63 independent frequency bands. Each frequency band represents one-third of an octave or a major second. The Analyzer parameters are used to activate Analyzer mode and to customize the appearance of the incoming signal in the main display.
Analyzer parameters
Analyzer button: Switch the main display to Analyzer mode.
Analyzer display: The display shows the spectrum analyzer based on the settings below.
Top field: Indicates the maximum level displayed on the meter scale. Drag the field or the meter display vertically to adjust.
Range field: Indicates the dynamic range of the meter scale. Drag the field or scale vertically to adjust.
Scale: Indicates the scale of levels. Drag the scale vertically to adjust the Range value. Changing the scale is useful when analyzing highly compressed material because it makes it easier to identify small level differences.
Sum and Max buttons: Show the average level of all selected channels (Sum) or the highest level of all selected channels (Max) for each frequency band in the Analyzer display. The Sum and Max levels are measured for the combined signal of all channels selected with the Channel buttons.
Channel buttons: Select one or multiple channels for metering. The number and appearance of these buttons is determined by the current project surround format.
Mode buttons: Determine how levels are displayed. You can choose RMS Slow, RMS Fast, or Peak characteristics.
The two RMS modes show the effective signal average and provide a representative overview of perceived loudness.
The Peak mode measures sample peaks.
Analyzer Bands pop-up menu: Choose the number of frequency bands shown in the Analyzer display. Choices are: 31 Bands (Third-Octave) or 63 Bands (Major Second).
Return Rate pop-up menu: Choose how quickly analyzed signals return from peak/maximum levels to zero or incoming signal levels. This is expressed in dB per second.
Analyzer Peak parameters
Peak pop-up menu: Choose the hold time for the Level Meter. Choose 2, 4, or 6 seconds—or infinite.
Note: The Hold button must be turned on for the selected time value to have an effect.
Hold button: Turn on to show a small colored segment above each level bar which indicates the most recent peak level.
Reset button: Clear all numeric values and peak hold segments.
Note: Peak hold is also reset when deselecting the Hold button or starting playback.
