Adjust position and size of objects in the Logic Pro for Mac Environment

Objects can be freely placed, which allows for flexibility, but can lead to overlaps or misalignments—particularly when pasting between layers. Fortunately, you can quickly clean up object positions.

Snap objects to a grid

  • In the Logic Pro Environment window, choose View > Snap Positions from the Environment menu bar.

The objects are aligned to an invisible grid.

It’s useful to leave this setting turned on, but you should turn it off if you want to manually move an object by a few pixels.

Align selected objects horizontally or vertically

  • In the Logic Pro Environment window, choose Options > Clean up > Align Objects from the Environment menu bar.

The upper-left object stays where it is. The position of the next object determines whether the objects are aligned in a row or a column. If it’s to the right of the upper-left object, all objects are aligned horizontally (in a row). If it’s below the upper-left object, all objects are aligned vertically (in a column).

Align selected objects to the invisible grid

  • In the Logic Pro Environment window, choose Options > Clean up > Positions by Grid from the Environment menu bar.

Align objects using key commands

  • In the Logic Pro Environment window, use the following key commands to move selected objects one pixel in the relevant direction, even when the grid is turned on:

    • Object move left

    • Object move right

    • Object move up

    • Object move down

See Key commands for MIDI Environment.

Resize an object

  • In the Logic Pro Environment window, drag the object’s bottom-right corner.

Resize a selected object to its default value

  • In the Logic Pro Environment window, choose Options > Clean up > Size by Default from the Environment menu bar.

Resize selected objects using key commands

  • In the Logic Pro Environment window, use the following key commands to decrease or increase the width or height of selected objects by 1 pixel:

    • Object Height +1 Pixel

    • Object Height −1 Pixel

    • Object Width +1 Pixel

    • Object Width −1 Pixel

See Key commands for MIDI Environment.
