Mattel Entertainment

Mattel Entertainment was the former production arm of Mattel along with Mattel Studios and Mattel Playground Productions, known to have produced material based on their franchises such as Polly Pocket, My Scene, Imaginext, Barbie and Max Steel. In 2016, the company was absorbed into Mattel Creations, now Mattel Television.

1st Logo (January 9, 2002-October 18, 2016)

Trivia:

• Despite the Mattel Playground Productions and Mattel Studios logos being used on Mattel's productions from 2012 to 2016, there was a brief period from August to October of 2016 where this logo was used as a replacement for the Mattel Playground Productions logo (after it shut down) and as a prototype for the Mattel Creations logo. However, it does not appear on the final Team Hot Wheels film, which uses the Mattel Playground Productions logo.
• On the Barbie and Max Steel films, as well as most of Mattel's production library, the logo is credited as "Mattel Entertainment". However, on Kelly Dream Club, the first season of the Polly Pocket web series, some 2000s direct-to-video specials and early Monster High films, the logo is credited as "Mattel, Inc." or simply just "Mattel".

Variants:

• On the logo's final years of usage, an animated version of the logo is used, where the Mattel logo spins from the right to the left until it reaches a comfortable position.
  • The speed of the logo may vary.
• On PollyWorld and post-2010 productions by Mattel such as some Barbie and Max Steel films, the logo is remastered in widescreen and HD.
• The duration of the logo may vary. An extended version exists, which is seen on Polly Pocket 2: Cool at The Pocket Plaza, where the logo stays on-screen for almost ten seconds.
• On a handful of films, the logo zooms in.
  • On some of the Max Steel films, the logo is in fullscreen, and stretched to widescreen.
  • On Max Steel: Biocrisis and Max Steel: Mutant Menace, the logo fades in directly from the end credits and the superimposed Rainmaker Entertainment logo.
• Sometimes, the Mattel logo would be still and inside a square on a black background.
  • One variant of this has the logo stretched to 16:9 and the words "In association with" in Times New Roman above the logo on a black background, which was seen on The Music in You, a bonus feature on the DVD of Barbie of Swan Lake.
  • A similar variant like the above exists, but it is in fullscreen, and "In association with" is in Comic Sans, which appeared on The Artist in Me, which is also a bonus feature on a DVD of a Barbie film, that being Barbie as Rapunzel.
  • On Polly Pocket: Lunar Eclipse, the logo is stretched to fullscreen, meaning a true widescreen version of the "white box" variant exists.
  • The size of the square seems to vary as seen on the Polly Pocket duology, where the square is slightly larger each time.
  • Another variant where the square is larger exists, which was spotted on at least one episode of the direct-to-video series Kelly Dream Club. This time, the square is scaled up in size more than the Polly Pocket variant to the point where the logo gets squeezed between two black bars. The other episodes use the 4:3 fullscreen version of the standard logo.
• The size of the logo in general may vary.
• On the original March 5, 2006 Nickelodeon airing of Barbie Fairytopia: Mermaidia, there is copyright notice under it, which reads "©2005 Mattel, Inc. All Rights Reserved. "Barbie: Mermaidia" and all Related Titles, Characters, and Logos are Trademarks of Mattel, Inc.". The copyright notice seems to be rushed since both the copyright year and the film's title are not consistent with the actual film.
  • On Dancing On Air: The Making of Barbie in The 12 Dancing Princesses, there is another copyright notice, but this time it is in a different font, and it reads: "BARBIE and associated trademarks and trade dress are owned by, and used under licence from Mattel, Inc. ©2006 Mattel, Inc. All Rights Reserved."
• On My Scene: Jammin' in Jamaica, the logo is still inside a white square on a white background with a trademark symbol and cuts in from the Curious Pictures logo.
• On the Barbie: Dreamtopia movie, the logo is much smaller and appears in-credit.
• On My Scene Goes Hollywood: The Movie and The Barbie Diaries, the logo is on a black background, fading in and out. The latter can be spotted in widescreen on releases by Deluxe Digital Studios and Macrovision.
  • On The Barbie Diaries, it cuts in and out.
  • At the end of the live action adaptation of Max Steel, the logo is much smaller.
• Sometimes, there are "®"/"TM" symbols next to the logo.
• On many uses, as well as most of the above variants, the logo fades in and sometimes even fades out.
• On a few 2002-2006 video games by the company, the logo is in 16 bit.
  • On the Scrabble game for the Game Boy Advance, the logo transitions from the Ubi Soft Entertainment logo.

Technique: A still, digital graphic. The animated version uses 2D computer animation, likely done by the Rainmaker Studios team.

Audio: The ending theme.

Audio Variants:

• On at least one episode of the aforementioned Kelly Dream Club, examples include the second episode entitled "Three Princesses", Kelly, voiced by Chantal Strand, is heard saying "What's your dream?" while the ending theme plays over. The audio is also reverbed a little.
  • On the episode "Kelly Sweetsville - Part 1", the voice is high pitched, because the ending theme was pitched too. It also lacks any reverb effects.
• On the original March 5, 2006 Nickelodeon airing of Barbie Fairytopia: Mermaidia, a magical 6-note violin theme with sparkling noises in the background is heard. This was composed by Eric Colvin, the composer of the actual film.
• A synth note can faintly be heard on the Barbie: Dreamtopia movie, which is part of the ending theme.
• On some Max Steel films, the whooshes and the metallic sounds from the end screen can be heard earlier, causing them to play while the logo zooms in.
• On Barbie & Her Sisters in the Great Puppy Adventure and its sequel, Barbie & Her Sisters in A Puppy Chase, the logo is silent.

2nd Logo (October 2010-2015)

Visuals: Over a black background, there is the Mattel logo on its side, spinning. The logo then rotates and slowly stops spinning, stopping in the logo's normal position. Copyright info fades in below.

Trivia: This logo was later remade in favor of the Mattel Studios logo.

Variants:

• The logo can sometimes have a dark grey registered trademark symbol near the bottom left corner.
• A redone, still version exists without any copyright notice, which was spotted on Monster High films from 2012 to 2013.
• Another redone version exists, which was spotted on a 2014 reprint of Monster High: New Ghoul at School. A small copyright notice was placed under the logo. Another reprint was released in the same year, but it used the standard variant.

Technique: CGI by Wildbrain Entertainment. The remade variants were done by Nerd Corps Entertainment and Rainmaker Studios, respectively.

Audio: None.

Audio Variants:

• On some instances, the ending theme is used.
• On the Monster High movies starting with Monster High: Fright On!, as well as a 2014 print of Monster High: New Ghoul at School, a Halloween-themed tune is used, which is part of the ending theme.

3rd Logo (October 14, 2016)

Visuals: First, there is a grainy image of the original headquarters of Mattel (located in Los Angeles, California) in 1945, with a signage reading "MATTEL CREATIONS" seen in the building, The screen then cuts to various patents of various Mattel toy brands including the Vrroom motor, a Chatty Cathy doll, Barbie, a Hot Wheels car and a jet toy with a pilot figure, with the respective logos of American Girl, Mega Bloks, Barbie, Hot Wheels and Fisher-Price being seen. The screen cuts back to the "MATTEL CREATIONS" signage before it cuts to a white film grain background as the original Mattel logo from the 1950s appears before the current logo shows up.

Trivia:

• The Mattel Creations name was already established by then.
• This was the first time after 44 years when Mattel had an on-screen logo on a theatrical film. Soon after, in 2023, the Mattel Films logo would start being used.
• This logo was believed to be the 2nd Mattel Playground Productions logo for a long time. Some others believed it was another prototype for the Mattel Creations logo, much like the animated variant of the first logo. It was also believed to be the first Mattel Films logo, as it was a theatrical logo. Those theories were all disproven, though, because of the 1st logo appearing in the end.

Technique: 2D computer animation combined with live action photography, designed by Mattel's in-house team.

Audio: The opening theme of the movie.

Audio Variant: There exists an unused theme (which has a orchestral tune with some film projector sounds) for this logo, composed by Drastic Studios.
