
The game got a home console release for ColecoVision simply named SubRoc which only simulated the 3D effects.
Tropes found in the game:
- Adaptation Title Change: The game was retitled to just SubRoc with the effects done via 3D just similuted.
- Attract Mode: The game shows spaceships flying into and out of the background to fully show off the 3D effect.
- Defeat Equals Explosion: When a projectile hits an enemy craft, it explodes to show that it was defeated by the shot. If a missile hits you, the screen gets covered in explosions and you lose a life.
- Endless Game: Typical of arcade games of the time, the game does not have an end. The player simply plays until they run out of lives.
- In-Universe Game Clock: In each level, the coloring of the graphics changes to simulate the change to morning, day, evening, and then night.
- No Plot? No Problem!: Just fire at the enemy spaceships.
- One-Hit-Point Wonder: One shot from an enemy projectile will instantly cost the player a life.
- Tech-Demo Game: This was the very first arcade game developed to make use of 3D graphics.
- Video-Game Lives: The player's lives are represented by sea boats with each one disappearing if the player loses a life.
