Aro II is a DOS platform videogame released in 1997 and developed by John Paul D'India. A relatively obscure title, the game follows the player character, Aro, through many platform levels where he must collect items and avoid obstacles, in order to reach each level's exit.
Aro II contains examples of:
- Blob Monster: Slime monsters are a common enemy in this game. Creatures made of green slime that roam through the platform they're in. And most death animations for Aro involve Aro himself becoming a Slime.
- Death from Above: If a Gripper stands right above Aro, it may fall over him, which will cause his death if the player doesn't avoid them.
- Forced Transformation: Touching enemies or staying in the water for too long will turn Aro into a Slime.
- High-Voltage Death: Touching electric beams causes Aro to crumble into ash.
- Invincibility Power-Up: Many levels contain potions that grant Aro invincibility, allowing him to touch one enemy or trap without dying. The potion's effect lasts indefinitely as long as Aro doesn't touch any enemies.
- Non-Standard Game Over: Making Aro jumping outside of the level's layout will trigger a game over.
- Red Is Heroic: Aro is the game's protagonist and he's a creature with a round, red body and two arms and legs.
- Reduced to Dust: Falling into lava or touching electrical beams will turn Aro into ash.
- Spring Jump: Some levels contain springs that Aro can use to jump to high places.
- Super Drowning Skills: Downplayed. Aro can swim, but if he stays underwater for too long, he'll turn into a slime.
- Toggling Setpiece Puzzle: Some levels require Aro to pull levers in order to open doors, reveal platforms to jump to, and disconnect electrical traps.
