Aside from Edit Reasons, ATT, and Reviews, don't expect me to say much.
Tropes about/relating to Myself:
Physical/Sexuality
- Asexual: Asexual Aromantic to be specific.
- Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: I'm pale as hell. Looking at me, you'd probably just see a walking corpse. The permanent shadows under my eyes and tear lines don't help. I can't tan either, since I burn easily and nearly got skin cancer on my ear.
- Eye Colour Change: For the longest time I looked like I had hazel eyes, but they turned amber in my mid-twenties. No one knows why, we just think it might be from my dad's side of the family which not even he knows much about.
- Never Bareheaded: During the day at least, I can't be outside without a hat. I burn easily and nearly got skin cancer on my left ear, so I wear either bucket hats or beanies when outside and the sun is out.
- Older Than They Look: I have a baby face which, when combined with my voice sounding youngish, leads to me being mistaken for someone still in High School despite being 28. I get carded whenever I have to pick up cigarettes for my family!
- Prematurely Grey-Haired: I'm only 28, and yet I'm already turning grey.
Personality
- Angst Aversion: I am not particularly fond of too angsty works. I suffer from anxiety and depression and things that are too angsty, even if knowing they are fictional, can put me in a mood that quickly spirals. I find it hard to actually rewatch the Nightmare Sequence Luz suffers in The Owl House S3E3 "Watching and Dreaming" despite knowing none of the Hexsquad are actually saying that to her and it's just the Collector puppetting them since I easily identify with Luz, and watching them be forced to parrot her insecurities and inner demons like that hits too close to home.
- The Anti-Nihilist: Just because nothing matters objectively doesn't mean you can't make it matter to yourself.
- Being Human Sucks: The day Brain Uploading becomes available, I'm signing up just so I can have a synthetic body instead of this stupid meatsack.
- Blue-and-Orange Morality: I'm a moral relativist who believes people need to be somewhat selfish to survive, and that one should stand by their decisions without excuses.
- Borrowed Catchphrase: I tend to adopt catchphrases I like, sometimes without realizing it. I've been saying Uncle's "Aiyah" since I was little, and have caught myself saying Andy's "Sick. Wicked Sick!" a lot lately.
- Cuteness Overload: I am extremely susceptible to cute things. The girls of 1-A, the Rentarou Family, and the Hexsquad are examples, with Ochaco, Shizuka, and Amity in particular being absolutely adorable.
- Polyamory: Not myself, but I am a large advocate for it, especially in shipping. Monogamy is overrated.
- Sir Swears-a-Lot: I curse a lot. Why? Because I can. So I don't have problems with people doing the same, and am more annoyed when people do have a problem with it.
- What Is Evil?: I'm a moral relativist, and freely admit that what's evil to some is good to others. To this end, I don't think in terms of "good" and "evil", I just think in terms of what's best for me and mine, and I will not begrudge those who do the same unless it gets in my way.
Dislikes
- Author Tract: Namely when characters are made to act out of character or into straw men for the sake of the message the author is trying to send: like making someone randomly start slut shaming your OC as a stand in for negative comments said OC got from readers so you can have the OC rant at them, or turning the administration behind a school that were genuinely good people in canon into a bunch of prejudicial pricks outside of a select few to demonstrate how "ingrained the discrimination is" while justifying why your main cast are the underdogs. Stuff like that immediately takes me out of the story and makes me stop reading.
- Betrayal Fic: Requires everyone be subjected to Character Derailment and Jerkass Ball to be even remotely possible, and it always turns into some edgelord revenge plot.
- Derailing Love Interests: It's a disservice to existing characters just because a Writer on Board wants to make a ship canon. If you have to write a canon love interest out of character to justify them splitting for your preferred ship, then that sounds like your ship has less chemistry than the already existing ship than you care to admit.
- Fan Dumb: I've grown sick of fandoms due to how rabid they can be.
- Fan Hater: I can't stand people who can't let people enjoy things, especially if the "criticisms" they make are either them being pissed the show didn't cater specifically to them or if they demonstrate they lack some of the most basic of media literacy. My Hero Academia and Hellaverse haters in particular annoy me beyond belief, particularly fanfic writers for the former, Youtubers for the latter, and Twitter / X and Reddit users for both.
- Fix Fic: I've become disillusioned with it over the years. The notion someone can automatically "fix" the original by focusing on what they dislike is just as likely to be as bad as the original, contain thinly veiled bashing, and/or "fix" something that wasn't broke in the first place. It's just Running the Asylum.
- In Spite of a Nail: Specifically regarding AU fanfics were something is changed and yet everything goes like canon despite that making no sense. Take any AU fic where Izuku doesn't join 1-A and yet the USJ Incident happens exactly like canon just without him there. Without Izuku there: Tsuyu and Minoru should be dead, since he was integral in helping them get out of the shipwreck zone and his lunging at Tomura stopped him from just killing them after the Nomu knocked out Aizawa. Shoto would never use his fire, Tenya would die going after Stain, etc. Izuku is quite literally the impetus, either directly or indirectly, behind the growth of Class 1-A, so removing him from the class shouldn't result in the students still being like their canon post development selves despite him not being there!
- The Needs of the Many: This mindset is self-serving. It's easy to justify this mindset when you aren't part of the few, but the moment you are, you're either already willing to embrace your death, or its suddenly a problem. And those willing to justify the callous loss of life with this have something seriously wrong with them.
- Old Shame:
- My old behavior here before 2021 I cringe at.
- I used to be an ardent defender of the original RWBY. Now, I've largely sworn the show off and don't want to be reminded of my time with it. Fuck the CRWBY for the forced bullshit they put Penny through. Penny, Oscar, Nora, Ren, Emerald, Mercury, Hazel, Sun, Marrow, Velvet, Ilia and the Schnee's aside from Jacques all deserve a better series than this. Or at the very least, much better writers.
- Reset Button Ending: It's stupid as fuck and retroactively makes everything prior All for Nothing. I hated it in Fate/Grand Order, and I hate it in Chainsaw Man, and both make me feel like I wasted my time if that was what the ending was gonna be.
- True Art Is Angsty: Not everything needs to be angsty, especially if said angst is cheap and only included for the sake of angst.
- Video Review Show: Pseudo-intellectuals rambling about why something is bad or overanalyzing something that wasn't meant to be deep in particular. I still like things like Game Theory, Max0r, and occassionally The Nostalgia Critic, but most video reviews and video essays annoy me.
Quotes I Love
"I grew up thinking everything was an opportunity to justify existing, but there are people out there who won't make you feel worthless, you just... have to let yourself meet them."
Amity Blight, extending a hand to her once enemy Hunter while seeing herself in him, The Owl House
"Change can be difficult, but it's how we grow. It can be the hardest thing to realize you can't hold on to something forever. Sometimes, you have to let it go. But of the things you let go... you'd be surprised what makes its way back to you."
Anne Boonchuy, closing narration as she reunites with Marcy Wu and Sasha Waybright for her 23rd Birthday, Amphibia
"Critics who treat ‘adult’ as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
C. S. Lewis, reflecting the belief that "true maturity" is not being concerned with being an "adult" and not being seen as "childish", but having grown to embrace what you love and accepting who you are.
"Everyone wants to believe they're "chosen". But if we all waited around for a prophecy to make us special, we'd die waiting. And that's why you need to choose yourself."
Eda Clawthorne, giving her apprentice Luz Noceda true wisdom, The Owl House
"What do you think is the most important quality a general needs to lead an army? Whether he's a warrior who can defeat a thousand foes or a wise strategist who knows how to use his soldiers, if the general goes down, the battle is lost. If you die, you can't protect your soldiers, your country, or anything else. Thus, a general must be the greatest coward on the battlefield. — You can cry. You can be weak. — It's okay if they call you a coward. Survive, Kotaro. No matter what they say about you, we know that you are a great general."
Grandma Katsura, imparting on her grandson the wisdom that it is alright to be seen as weak or a coward since you can only protect those that follow you by surviving and creating the foundation for the legendary samurai strategist "Kotaro the Runaway", Gintama.
"What good is the mission if we lose ourselves trying to fulfill it?!"
Jefferson Pierce, deconstructing the Benevolent Conspiracy by calling out the actions of the Anti-Light and how they're no better than the Light, Young Justice - Revival Series.
"Sometimes it all just feels... pointless. But it's not. Not if you have people who care about you. Good memories can do a lot. Hold onto them. And cherish the people around you. You never know when they'll be gone. In this world, the worst thing you can do is... make someone think they're not wanted or loved."
Kinger, bringing Pomni out of her despair and reminding her it's all worth it when you have people you care about and who care about you, The Amazing Digital Circus.
"I have to tell you the honest truth as I see it: in this world nothing perfect exists. It may be a cliché after all, but its the way things are. Thats precisely why ordinary men pursue the concept of perfection, it's infatuation. But ultimately I have to ask myself "What is the true meaning of being perfect?", and the answer I came up with was "Nothing!", not one thing. The truth of the matter is I despise perfection. If something is truly perfect, that's it. The bottom line becomes, there is no room for imagination, no space for intelligence, or ability, or improvement. Do you understand? To men of science like us, perfection is a dead end, a condition of hopelessness. Always strive to be better than anything that came before you but not perfect! Scientists agonize over the attempt to achieve perfection. That's the kind of creatures we are, we take joy in trying to exceed our grasp, in trying to reach for something that, in the end, we have to admit may in fact be unreachable."
Mayuri Kurotsuchi, lecturing Szayelaporro Granz on the idea of "perfection" before killing him, Bleach
"I hate bad people. They act so damn superior, when their empathy and imagination are as empty as a vacant lot. I can't deal with good people either... Because they forgive those bad people. And they view the act of forgiveness as a noble thing. Makes me wanna vomit. "Karma" isn't fully automatic. Evil people are only judged under the law. I want good people to enjoy fairness... Even if only a few will. So... I save people unequally."
Megumi Fushiguro, reflecting on his reason for helping people, Jujutsu Kaisen
"Wisdom is a circle. What you receive, you must give back."
Dr. Peter Tezla and Vert Wheeler, the belief that things like knowledge and kindness are something that should be shared with others rather than kept for oneself, creating a perfect wheel, Hot Wheels: World Race and Hot Wheels: AcceleRacers
"The single quality that is common across every living creature on this planet... is fear. It's funny then, that as common as fear is... we so easily underestimate its power. Fear of growing close to someone… a subsequent fear of loss. Fear of failure. And as more people depend on you, those fears can take on greater power. But fear itself isn't worthy of concern. It is who we become while in its clutches. Will you be proud of that person? Will you forgive them? Will you understand why they felt the need to do the things they did? Will you even recognize them? Or will the person staring back at you be the very thing you should have feared from the start? I suppose we all find out... sooner or later."
Professor Ozpin, in one of the rarely well written moments while ruminating on the nature of fear, RWBY
"Self-sacrifice, Magnus— It's cheap. It's a cheap way out. I need to live so I can make amends."
Rodimus, rejecting the idea of Redemption Equals Death while preparing to put himself through immense pain to save the lives of his crew, The Transformers: More than Meets the Eye
"Being in charge means making tough calls, and sometimes you have to stop and remember to have faith in the people around you."
Sasha Waybright, having become a true leader of the resistance since last seeing Anne, Amphibia
"When it comes to heroes... the moment you try to become a hero is when you are disqualified."
Shuichi Kitaoka, rejecting Satoru Tojo's delusions of being a hero, Kamen Rider Ryuki
"I never believed this truce would last. I thought that if we managed to survive Charon it would only be a matter of time before we were back at each other's throats. I believed this because in my eyes the Federal Army of Chorus was still the enemy. When you spend everyday fighting a war, you learn to demonize your attackers. To you, they're evil, they're- they're sub-human. Because if they weren't, then what would that make you? ...What I'm trying to say... is I've been afraid to see you for what you really are. You're our brothers. Our sisters. And the things we've done to one another are unforgivable. But General Doyle was able to see past that. In the end, he understood that now isn't the time for pride or anger, now is the time for unity. Everyday I ask myself, "What do you fight for?", and every day I answer, "For a better tomorrow.". Well, if we can’t set aside our past and start trusting one another, there won't be a tomorrow. So please, fight with me. Fight to see Malcolm Hargrove locked away for the rest of his life! Fight to wipe that stupid grin off of Felix's face! Fight because you deserve to fucking WIN!''
Vanessa Kimball, rallying together the New Republic and the Federal Army of Chaos in opposing Malcolm Hargrove, Red vs. Blue: The Chorus Trilogy
Dethroning Moment
I'm not ashamed to admit I've added a few DMOS myself. If you're interested in what series, here's a list:
That isn't to say I now dislike all of these series, as I still love TAWOG, L&O, and SP, but these moments are ones I couldn't overlook, and for some are what killed my enjoyment of their series.
Misc. Trivia
- In terms of Gender Identity, I definitely fall under the "Queer" umbrella, but I'm honestly still figuring it out myself. I'm pretty sure I am "apagender" since I'm biologically male but honestly don't really give a crap about my own gender identity otherwise, but I'm uncertain if that's how I genuinely am or if its just my general sense of apathy and depression mixing it up. Granted, I hate having a flesh body in general, and while I did question once if I was enby or even transfeminine, those thoughts turned out to be fleeting and quickly faded upon deeper introspection.
- Despite disliking shipping in general, I do have some one true pairings and one true threesomes. I largely support what is canon, but I do have the occasional fanon ones, and I tend to have an issue reading fics that either attempt to sink those ships or bash any of the involved parties.
