  • Inspiration for the Work: Janoha has openly admitted that several decisions regarding details in the fic were inspired by another The Owl House fic, The Angel of The Owl House, particularly Eda's Harpy form gaining two additional sets of wings resembling an archangel, Vitimir's characterization and defeat being both a reference but also In-Universe Catharsis for the characters actions in that fic, and Odalia's characterization drawing from the version of her in that fic, down to her defiling the grave and trapping the soul of the original child to bear the name "Amity", Alador's sister whom Amity was named after and turned into Odalia's Oracle Spirit in Angel and the original Amity who died of illness but was revived as a Grimwalker here, to the disgust of the rest of the Blights when they learn the truth. The names of the three remaining Archivists are retroactively made to match what they are in the other story once they debut.
  • Line to God: Janoha regularly responds to comments on Archive of Our Own, as well as answers questions and elaborates on details that are largely inferred in the fic itself. She likewise has a Discord channel where she more directly answers questions, draws art for the fic, and discusses her own fic and other fics in general.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: Part of the reason for Lucille and the BATTs getting their own spinoff via "The Bat Witch on the Lone Wing: An NFOF Story" was specifically due to Janoha trying to avoid cast bloat. As Janoha elaborates on the Discord channel, the main fic was already having to juggle a lot of characters, and trying to include Lucille's adventures on the Lone Wing in the main fic would only result in her and her friends becoming a Spotlight-Stealing Squad and shifting the Ensemble Cast Out of Focus. So, they decided to instead have Lucille and several supporting characters leave the main story in favor of giving them their own self-contained spinoff, while limiting any Intercontinuity Crossover to family reunions. In a case of irony, doing this only resulted in the main cast ending up out of focus anyway, as the main fic went on an unofficial hiatus while Janoha focused more on "The Bat Witch on the Lone Wing" and another spinoff instead.
  • Series Hiatus: A weird case. While Janoha is still working on the series and releasing chapters regularly, towards the end of July of 2025 the main fic would end up going on an unofficial hiatus, with Janoha's focus being diverted to a second spinoff that debuted that same day: Fate Forged in Feathers, with all subsequent updates being to either that or "The Bat Witch on the Lone Wing", while the main fic hasn't been updated since then.
  • Shrug of God: When asked if Willow's having a crush on Luz, and later revealed to have had one on Amity that she is regaining after they reconciled, was hinting at the two listed official couples becoming a foursome, Janoha has consistently stated she doesn't know yet how she'd feel about doing so, hence her making it deliberately ambiguous in fic and only labelling Willow's feelings as "crushes" so she can have some wiggle room when she makes a decision. Said decision would eventually turn out to be "yes", as Willow confesses to Luz and Amity at the urging of the Emerald Entrails, who then do the same with Helyna at the end of "Nature's Blessings".
  • Throw It In:
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Before deciding to make Castle Grayskull be made from the skull of a Titan, Janoha considered having it be composed from the skull of an Archivist, deciding against it in favor of having the Demon Realm's moon be an Archivist skull.
    • Janoha was tempted to kill off Odalia following their failed attack on Patellans, but opted to instead just have them captured.
  • Word of Gay: Osran is stated to be married to Scooter Crane, the Bard Coven Head before Raine who retired early in both canon and the fic.
  • Word of God:
    • Janoha states that a lot of Belos's current beliefs and identity can be attributed to Phillip's childhood, specifically from being raised by the puritanical Righteous-Hand Court and the traumatic experience of losing his original home and family to Bill while he was possessing Caleb, conditioning Philip to see anything remotely "demonic" or reminds him of that night as purely "evil" and something he needs to kill. Janoha does point out though that Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse, as Phillip had plenty of chances to change for the better and see the same thing Caleb saw in the Demon Realm, but continued to reject it in favor of his own delusions even when they proved counterproductive, namely his hatred of Evelyn for "corrupting" Caleb when it was her presence that stopped Caleb from being possessed by Bill again.
    • When asked about the romantic relationships of the Best Friend Squad and the canonical hinting that Glimmer had feelings for Adora and if that would be reflected in the fic as the BFS being a polycule, Janoha stated that while they're not a polycule, the group as a whole are True Companions and extremely close in a similar vein to the canon Hexsquad. Aside from the canonical Catradora and Bow being set to be Prince Consort to Glimmer, Janoha states that any romantic feelings between Glimmer and Adora died out following Season 4 of She-Ra due to the emotional rift born from Glimmer becoming Queen, their repaired relationship now making them sisters in all but blood, while Glimmer and Catra meanwhile are Platonic Life-Partners thanks to their shared experiences on Horde Prime's ship.
    • The reason for Una and Bill performing a Fusion Dance and becoming "Janus" is because of their time swimming in the Boiling Sea. They didn't want to risk getting separated by the currents so they, with the help of a bit of Titan ichor, melded themselves together like they were made of clay, the pearl on their neck the representation of their now fused souls.
    • While Amity's use of a concealment stone when dealing with her Gender Dysphoria is for the most part just the placebo effect, it does actually conceal something: that Amity has Youthful Freckles. Much like her sense of dysphoria, Amity began hiding her freckles due to Odalia's abuse of her conditioning her to see her freckles as imperfections. Thanks to undergoing the "Ascension of the Champion" ritual though and the ritual helping her move past her dysphoria, Amity is displaying her freckles more now, its just no one else has picked up on her having them yet.
    • The first few chapters of Season 3 are meant to be akin to a Post-Script Season, tying up loose ends related to Belos and the Archivist plotlines while setting up the next step in the Owl Family's lives, culminating in the rest of the season taking place after a timeskip.
    • The flower bouquet Camila leaves at her mother's grave (comprised of trillium, black roses, anemones, and nightshades) and is meant to serve as Last Disrespects to her mother for nearly killing her all those years ago by pointing out how she has no lost love for her mother and has found her own happiness in the Owl Family.
WeebMagic: If I'm correct the flowers are Camila's way of saying:
'Even though you are dead (black roses are often associated with death), there is no love lost between us (anemones represent forsaken love) as I have found people (nightshades represent many things but a key one is witchcraft) who accept and love me for who I am (trilliums have historically been a symbol for bisexuality)'
      Janoha: BINGO!
    • Part of Camila's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Belos in his mind stemmed from his unintentionally reminding her of her mother Rosa, and part of what she said to Belos is what she wanted to say to her after all these years.
    • Andrias is stated to still be alive, and in the two years since last seeing the Calamity Trio has gotten a wooden prosthetic leg. His eyesight has begun failing him though as hinted by his eyes turning grey in the Series Finale.
    • When asked on the Discord chat what became of Osran after he had last been seen chasing after Lituus whom would later show up in Gravesfield at the start of Season 3 none the worse for wear, Janoha would state that Osran ultimately decided to give up his chase after the events of Season 2 in favor of retiring to Palm Stings with his husband, Scooter Crane. When further asked who would be in charge of the Oracle Coven now, Janoha stated that Osran opted to hand control over the Coven to the Seekers of the Fallen Star.
    • While Renata is a Cool Old Lady now, she wasn't the best mother to Rosa/Camila's mother, having been so preoccupied performing work as a Miraculous holder while also being an overworked single mother that she unintentionally subjected Rosa to Parental Neglect. This resulted in Rosa becoming very independent yet also reckless, quickly marrying Connor so that she wouldn't have Camila out of wedlock and so she could have a sense of stability.
    • The one half-brother of Camila's that didn't take after his father ultimately regrets not being able to do more to help Camila when he could, and is now living in the Spanish countryside with his husband while cutting all contact with his brothers.
  • Write What You Know: Janoha herself is transgender, drawing on her own experiences when writing about transgender characters like Amity and Helyna. She admits the decision to make Anne transgender came from her personally resonating with Anne's Character Development.
