Navigate in Tracks view with VoiceOver in Logic Pro for iPad

In Logic Pro for iPad, you can use standard VoiceOver gestures to navigate through the interface. When you navigate to a track, the track icon is the first selected item, followed by any regions on the track. However, if the track headers are open, any other buttons in the track headers, such as the Mute and Solo buttons, are selected after the track icon, followed by the Volume slider, and then the regions. When you navigate past the last region on a track, the VoiceOver cursor moves to the track icon of the next track.

You can use additional gestures to zoom in and out, move the playhead, scroll tracks to the left and right, select the previous or next track, open track headers, and change the order of tracks.

Ruler position announcements

  • When you navigate to items that have a ruler position, such as regions, notes, or the playhead, VoiceOver announces the full ruler position.

  • When you move an item forward or backward in time, VoiceOver announces only the part of the time position that changes.

For example, if you navigate to the playhead at the beginning of the second bar, VoiceOver announces its position as “Bar 2, Beat 1.” If you move the playhead to the second beat of the same bar, only the beat is changed, and VoiceOver announces “Beat 2.” As you move the playhead further in time, VoiceOver announces each following beat. When the playhead reaches the next bar, VoiceOver announces “Bar 3, Beat 1.”

When you move an item while zoomed in, VoiceOver also announces smaller time divisions like ticks and divisions.

Zoom in and out

  • Navigate to any region, turn the VoiceOver rotor to Zoom, then swipe down to zoom in or swipe up to zoom out.

Scroll tracks to the left or right

When you zoom in on a region, you can scroll tracks to the left or right.

  • Navigate to any item in a zoomed track, then use three fingers to swipe left or right.

The visible range of the ruler is announced as you scroll.

Move the playhead

Do any of the following:

  • Navigate to the playhead, double-tap and hold until you hear three rising tones, then drag left or right to move the playhead according to the current Snap value.

  • Navigate to the playhead, then swipe up or down to move the playhead to the next or previous bar.

  • Navigate to a track icon or region, turn the VoiceOver rotor to Playhead, then swipe up or down to move the playhead to the next or previous bar.

Each time you move the playhead, VoiceOver announces the new position.

For more information about setting the Snap value, see Snap items to the grid in Logic Pro for iPad.

Open or close track headers

When track headers are open, you can select and adjust various track controls, including the volume, mute, and solo controls. Do one of the following:

  • Navigate to a track icon, turn the VoiceOver rotor to Toggle Track Headers Controls Visibility, then swipe up or down.

  • Navigate to the Track Headers button, then double-tap.

If the track headers are open, you can close them by navigating to a Solo button, Mute button, or Volume slider in the track header, then turning the VoiceOver rotor to Toggle Track Headers.

Select the next or previous track

  • Navigate to a track icon or a region, turn the VoiceOver rotor to Tracks, then swipe up or down.

Change the order of tracks

  1. Navigate to the track icon of the track you want to move.

  2. Double-tap and hold until you hear three rising tones.

  3. Drag vertically to move the track up or down.

When you drag the track, VoiceOver announces the new position in relation to the other tracks.
