Use the Event Float window in Logic Pro for Mac

The Event Float window provides information on the currently selected event (or region), and can be compared with a single line of the Event List. You can edit the following parameters in this window:

  • The start point of the selected event or region in bars, beats, divisions, and ticks, or SMPTE time

  • The type or name of the selected event or region

  • The recorded MIDI channel and first data byte (if an event), the name of notes, and the second data byte (if it exists for the event type)

    You can change the resolution of the values displayed for velocity, pitch bend, aftertouch, and continuous controllers. See General View settings.

  • The length of the selected event or region in bars, beats, divisions, and ticks, or SMPTE time

Open the Event Float window

  • In Logic Pro, choose Window > Show/Hide Event Float (or use the Toggle Event Float key command, default assignment: Option-E).

Switch the Event Float window between SMPTE time and the bar/beat display

In Logic Pro, do one of the following:

  • Open the Project Settings > General pane, then click “Project Type: Use musical grid” to show the time format in bars and beats. Click the checkbox a second time to clear it (unchecked), which displays the time format in minutes and seconds.

  • Control-click the single row in the Event Float to open its shortcut menu, then choose Show Event Position and Length as Time or Bars/Beats (or press Control-Option-R).
