Automation in the Logic Pro for Mac Audio Track Editor

You can create and edit automation data directly in the Audio Track Editor. To learn more about using Automation, see Overview of automation.

Show automation in the Audio Track Editor

  • In the Logic Pro Audio Track Editor, click the Show/Hide Automation button  in the Audio Track Editor menu bar (or press A).

Automation data is visible on the waveform based on the controls in the Automation inspector that appears on the left. The controls are linked to the corresponding automation controls on the track header and channel strip:

    • Automation On/Off button: Turn track and region automation on or off on that audio track.

    • Automation button: Click to display track automation or region automation.

    • Automation Cycle Through button: Displays the next existing automation curve for the track or region, depending which type of automation is selected.

    • Automation Parameter pop-up menu: Choose the channel strip, Smart Controls, or plug-in parameter that you want to automate.

    • Automation Value slider: Use to write automation data when Touch, Latch, or Write is selected for that track. See Choose automation modes.

    • Automation Value field: Displays the value of the slider position.
