Use AirPlay to stream audio and video to Apple TV 4K
You can use AirPlay to play video or audio from your iPhone or iPad on Apple TV 4K, or to view the screen of your Mac, iPhone or iPad on Apple TV 4K.
Note: To stream content from a Mac, iPhone or iPad to Apple TV 4K, both Apple TV 4K and the shared device may need to be connected to the same network.
Stream from an iPhone or iPad to Apple TV 4K
Do one of the following:
Mirror the screen of an iPhone or iPad: On the iPhone or iPad, swipe to open Control Centre, tap
, then select Apple TV 4K in the list of AirPlay devices. To end mirroring, make sure Control Centre is open on your device, tap , then tap Stop Mirroring.Stream video from an iPhone or iPad: Start playing video on the iPhone or iPad, tap
in the video window, then select your Apple TV 4K in the list of AirPlay devices. To stop streaming, tap at the top of the screen, then select Play on [iPhone or iPad].Note: If you have an Apple TV 4K and an iPhone or iPad that supports 4K HDR video, your videos from the Photos app will stream in full 4K HDR resolution.
Stream audio from an iPhone or iPad: On the iPhone or iPad, swipe to open Control Centre, tap
, select your Apple TV 4K in the list of devices, then tap 
(if the audio isn’t already playing).Tip: You can also start streaming directly from the Music app on iPhone or iPad by tapping
, then selecting your Apple TV 4K in the list of devices.
To see which devices can use AirPlay to stream to your Apple TV 4K, go to Settings 
on Apple TV 4K, then go to Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices. To remove a device from the list, select the device, then select Forget This Device.
Mirror a Mac screen on Apple TV 4K
On the Mac, do either of the following:
On a Mac with macOS Big Sur or later, click
in the menu bar to open Control Centre, click , then choose the Apple TV 4K you want to use. To end screen mirroring, click to open Control Centre, click , then click the name of the Apple TV 4K.On a Mac with macOS Catalina or earlier, click
in the menu bar, then choose the Apple TV 4K you want to use. To end screen mirroring, click in the menu bar, then choose Turn AirPlay Off.
Stream audio from a Mac to Apple TV 4K
On the Mac, click the Sound icon in the Mac menu bar, then choose the name of the Apple TV 4K.
If the streamed image appears cropped on Apple TV 4K, go to Settings on Apple TV 4K, go to AirPlay and Apple Home, and select AirPlay Display Underscan to turn it on. If you see black bars around the image, turn this setting off.
