Export a Spatial Audio project to a Dolby Atmos ADM BWF master file in Logic Pro for Mac

After your Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos mix is complete in Logic Pro for Mac, you can export your project or a portion of your project to an ADM BWF (Audio Definition Model Broadcast Wave Format) file. ADM BWF is the Dolby Atmos master file format used for submitting a Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos mix to a mastering engineer or streaming service. ADM BWF files are also compatible with industry tools that are used to edit and master Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos mixes for further distribution.

Note: An ADM BWF file is not a standard audio playback format. Although you could play it back on a music player, this is a multichannel interleaved WAVE file and you would hear the first two channels of the bed tracks.

Export a Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos mix to a Dolby Atmos ADM BWF master file

  • In Logic Pro, go to File > Export, then choose one of the following options from the menu:

    • Project as ADM BWF: Exports your entire project. It starts at the beginning of the project and stops at the end of the last region, including any effect tails, such as reverb or delay.

Note: To match the length of the Dolby Atmos mix to the stereo mix, use the export option Selection as ADM BWF.

    • Selection as ADM BWF: Exports a selection of your project.

When you choose Selection as ADM BWF, Logic Pro exports the part of your project enclosed by the cycle area or a marquee selection. You can also select a group of regions to define the start point as the beginning of the first selected region and the end point as the end of the last selected region.

Note: The selected monitoring format in the Dolby Atmos plug-in has no effect on the ADM BWF export.

Dolby Atmos ADM BWF master files exported by Logic Pro contain the following:

  • All the audio channels containing the surround bed and the individual mono and split stereo object tracks.

  • The pan automation data of all object tracks. See 3D Object Panner parameters.

  • Metadata (including downmix and trim settings) required to reproduce the mix on systems or devices compatible with Dolby Atmos. For details, see Downmix and trim controls.

You can import a Dolby Atmos ADM BWF master file in Logic Pro for Mac to open any Dolby Atmos mix that was saved in that format in Logic Pro or any other DAW. See Create a Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos project from a Dolby Atmos ADM BWF master file.
