Select tracks in Logic Pro for Mac

Some track operations, such as duplicating tracks or assigning tracks to a different channel strip, require that you first select the track or tracks.

You can select multiple tracks. When multiple tracks are selected, the first selected track is the focused track. Some operations, such as choosing a patch in the Library, only affect the focused track when multiple tracks are selected.

When multiple tracks are selected, the track number of the focused track also appears selected (lighter gray color) on the left edge of the track header, unlike the other selected tracks.

You can also search for a track by name or number and select it. The Tracks area scrolls so that the selected track is visible. This function is particularly useful for projects with a large number of tracks.

Select a track

  • In Logic Pro, click any empty part of the track header.

When you select a track, all regions on the track (or those that fall within the cycle, if Cycle mode is on) are selected, as long as the “Select regions on track selection” checkbox is selected in Editing settings. To select a track without changing the current region selection, Option-click the track.

Select multiple tracks

In Logic Pro, do one of the following:

  • To select adjacent tracks: Press and hold Shift as you click the track headers.

  • To select nonadjacent tracks: Press and hold Command as you click the track headers.

Search for and select a track

  1. In Logic Pro, choose Track > Search and Select Track from the control bar (or press Option-Command-T).

  2. Enter the track name or track number. As you enter text, the results list shows matching tracks by name and number. To clear the search field, click the Close button on the right side of the field.

  3. To select a track, click the track name in the results list.

  4. To close the search field, press the Esc key or click outside the field.

Select the track above or below the selected track

  • In Logic Pro, use one of the following key commands:

    • Select Previous Track

    • Select Next Track

Change the focused track in a multiple selection

When multiple tracks are selected, only one can have focus. You can change the focused track while keeping the multiple selection using the track numbers.

  • In Logic Pro, with multiple tracks selected, click the track number (to the left of the track header) for the track you want to have focus.

Deselect all selected tracks

  • In Logic Pro, select any unselected track.
