Set up content and privacy restrictions in Screen Time on Mac

Choose what can be viewed, downloaded, and purchased online—from watching movies and browsing the web to playing games. You can also manage what friends your child adds and if they can send private messages in Game Center.

Before you can set up content and privacy restrictions, you need to turn on Screen Time. See Set up Screen Time for yourself or Set up Screen Time for a child.

Note: When you set up a device for a child, certain content and privacy restrictions are set by default. You can view and manage these settings in Content & Privacy.

Manage the content your child can view and interact with

  1. Go to the System Settings app on your Mac.

  2. Click Screen Time in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

  3. If you’re a parent/guardian in a Family Sharing group and want to set up content and privacy restrictions for a child, click the Family Member pop-up menu, then choose a family member.

    If you don’t see the Family Member pop-up menu, make sure you’re signed in to your Apple Account and using Family Sharing.

  4. Click Content & Privacy, turn it on if it’s not on already, then do any of the following:

Some features may not be available in all languages or regions.
