Shared device overview
Introduction
An organization-owned device can either be deployed to a particular user, providing a customized and personal experience which can start when setting up the device for the first time, or shared among a group of users.
Depending on the usage scenario and device type, different configuration options are available to allow a device to be used by multiple users.
Platform Single Sign-on on Mac
With Platform Single Sign-on (PSSO) available on Mac, identity providers can provide an SSO extension which allows users to use their organization’s account to authenticate. This can be configured to cover different shared device use-cases:
On-demand account creation:
For deployments where the same group of users usually return to the same Mac.
Local accounts and their data persist on the device after a user has logged out.
For example, classrooms and shift working environments.
Authenticated Guest Mode:
For deployments where the Mac is used temporarily by different users.
User accounts and their data are deleted when the user logs out.
For example, hospitals, libraries, and labs.

Return to Service
With Return to Service, the process of resetting and reenrolling iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro is fully automated. It allows a device to quickly return to a defined state after use and be ready for the next user.

Shared iPad
Shared iPad allows more than one user to sign in to an iPad using their Managed Apple Account providing a personalized experience. Accounts can persist on the device to allow subsequent sign-ins to be much faster.
Shared iPad can also be configured for Temporary Session which allows guest users without a Managed Apple Account to sign in and use the device. All data is deleted if a guest user signs out.
