Search for plug-ins in the Mixer in Logic Pro for Mac

In Logic Pro, you can search for an audio, instrument, or MIDI plug-in by name in the Mixer, and add the plug-in to an empty plug-in slot or replace an existing plug-in in an occupied slot, depending on the type of slot you searched from.

Additionally, you can search for an audio plug-in using the Search and Add Plug-in command in the Mix menu, and add the plug-in to the first free Audio Effect slot on the focused channel strip in the Mixer.

You can also search for a send, an input, or an output in the Mixer. Also, for plug-ins featuring side chain input, you can search for a side chain source.

Search for a plug-in from an empty slot

  1. In the Mixer in Logic Pro, click an empty plug-in slot on a channel strip, then click the search field at the top of the plug-in menu.

  2. Enter the plug-in name in the search field. As you enter text, the results list shows matching plug-ins of the corresponding type (audio, instrument, or MIDI).

  3. To add a matching plug-in to the slot, select the plug-in in the results list.

Replace a plug-in in an occupied slot

  1. In the Mixer in Logic Pro, click an occupied plug-in slot on a channel strip, then click the search field at the top of the plug-in menu.

  2. Enter the plug-in name in the search field. As you enter text, the results list shows matching plug-ins of the corresponding type (audio, instrument, or MIDI).

  3. To replace the existing plug-in with a matching one, select the plug-in in the results list.

Search for an audio effect plug-in and add it to the focused channel strip

  1. In Logic Pro, choose “Search and Add Plug-in” from the Mix menu in the control bar (or press Control-Command-P).

  2. Enter the plug-in name in the search field.

  3. To add a matching plug-in to the first free Audio Effect slot on the focused channel strip in the Mixer, select the plug-in in the results list.

Note: When the focused channel strip is a software instrument channel strip, and no instrument plug-in has been added to the channel strip, the search results show instrument plug-ins rather than audio effect plug-ins. Selecting a plug-in from the search results adds the plug-in to the Instrument slot on the focused channel strip.
