Beat Breaker in Logic Pro for Mac

Beat Breaker is an audio plug-in that lets you slice, reorder, and process incoming audio in real time as it plays. Six edit modes—Time, Repeat, Cutoff, Resonance, Volume, and Pan—give you control over the playback position, speed, filtering, level, and stereo placement of each slice. The combination of settings across your slices defines a pattern.

A pattern stores the configuration of your slices and their effect settings. You can save up to 10 patterns at once, each assigned to its own Pattern button, letting you prepare and switch between different arrangements during a performance or recording session. Use the Randomize button to generate random effect values across your slices when you want to quickly try new configurations.

You can apply Beat Breaker to individual tracks or regions, or use it on a stereo bus to process a full mix in real time. When using it on a full mix, the Bypass Below parameter lets you exclude low frequencies from processing, keeping elements such as kick and bass unaffected.

To add Beat Breaker to your project, choose Multi Effects > Beat Breaker in a channel strip Audio Effect plug-in menu or the Plug-ins area. See Add, remove, move, and copy plug-ins.

Opening Beat Breaker displays the Main Editor, which consists of three sections:

  • The upper section contains the Edit Mode buttons for choosing how to edit each slice, along with global controls such as Randomize, Length, De-click, and Mix. When you click a slice, you can adjust its effect parameters using the controls that are situtated above between the Edit Mode buttons and global controls.

  • The middle section displays the input buffer on the left and the audio waveform in the center. Above the waveform is the Slice Editor strip, where you can add, move, and delete slices. See Create a Beat Breaker pattern.

  • The lower section contains the Pattern buttons for switching between patterns, and the Pattern Slot menu for loading, saving, and renaming patterns. See Work with pattern slots.
