Add a reminder from another app on Mac

While you’re using an app, you can add a reminder for an item in the app—without switching to Reminders. For example, you can create a reminder for the webpage you’re viewing in Safari, a selected note in Notes, a location or directions in Maps, or the card you’re viewing in Contacts.

Note: All Reminders features described in this guide are available when you use updated iCloud reminders. Some features aren’t available if you are using accounts from other providers.

Add a reminder from another app

When you add a reminder from another app, an app icon or link is added to the reminder. You can use that icon or link to get back to the item in the app where you created the reminder, such as a Safari webpage, Mail message, or Maps location.

  1. While using an app on your Mac, select the item you want to remember, click the Share button, then choose Reminders.

If the app doesn’t have a Share button, Control-click the item you want to remember, choose Share, then click Reminders.

Note: In some apps, the Share menu doesn’t include Reminders, so you can’t use it to create a reminder for the selected item or location.

  2. Click the Edit Details button to change or add more details to your reminder.

  3. Click Add.

Return to the app where you created a reminder

Reminders you create from another app have an app icon or link to help you get back to the item.

  1. Go to the Reminders app on your Mac.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Use an app icon: If there’s an app icon to the right of the reminder title, click the icon.

    • Use a link: If there’s a link below the reminder title, double-click the link.

When you decline an incoming FaceTime call, you can create a reminder to call back. To return the FaceTime call later, click the link in the reminder. See Return recent or missed FaceTime calls.
