Perforce Software, together with the Eclipse Foundation, has published the results of the 2026 State of Automotive Software Development Survey, offering a detailed look at current practices and emerging trends in the automotive software sector, including the growing role of open source.
2026 will be the year we turn momentum into milestones. The first milestone has already been reached: At CES in Las Vegas, 32 automotive companies signed the Memorandum of Understanding for open source collaboration.
As we steer towards the end of 2025, it’s amazing to look in the rear-view mirror and see just how far the Eclipse Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) community has travelled.
The SDV Community Days event is targeted towards developers of existing projects and interested new developers, as well as organisations that are not yet actively involved in SDV-related projects. Decision makers are welcome to join and interact with the community they help create.
As the year draws to a close for the automotive sector and the wider software-defined vehicle landscape, two prominent thought leaders and Eclipse SDV Ambassadors, Filipe Prezado and Martin Schleicher, share a clear view of what 2026 will hold for SDV technology, architecture, adoption, and industry readiness.

On 4 December the first Eclipse SDV community meeting in South Korea took place at the LG Sciencepark in Seoul. LG Electronics, together with the international Eclipse Foundation, hosted the event. BMW, ETAS, and Hyundai Mobis also participated.
November 12th, 2025 — The Eclipse Safe Open Vehicle Core (S-CORE) project today announced the active participation of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. as a new member of its open source community. By leveraging Qualcomm Technologies Inc.’s Snapdragon® Digital Chassis™ solutions, S-CORE will run seamlessly on Qualcomm Technologies’ established high-performance hardware for future software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
