Abstract

We investigate the obscuration of the distant universe by absorption in foreground spiral galaxies. We have used the most conservative and most radical views highlighted by the recent NATO conference on the opacity of spiral disks. We find that a significant amount of the universe will be obscured at redshifts important to QSO astronomers. This implies that any studies at high redshift should take account of this absorption.
