An example of how to use CORBA in python. 

1) Download OmniORB and OmniORBpy extension:
    $> wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/omniorb/omniORB/omniORB-4.1.6/omniORB-4.1.6.tar.bz2
    $> wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/omniorb/omniORBpy/omniORBpy-3.6/omniORBpy-3.6.tar.bz2

2) Extract OmniORB and OmniORBpy:
    $> tar -xjvf omniORB-4.1.6.tar.bz2
    $> tar -xjvf omniORBpy-3.6.tar.bz2

3) Install OmniOrb (installs to /usr/local by default):
    $> mkdir omniORB-4.1.6/build
    $> cd omniORB-4.1.6/build
    $> ../configure
    $> make
    $> sudo make install

4) Install OmniOrbPY (with path to your virtualenv, which you really should use):
    $> cd -
    $> mkdir omniORBpy-3.6/build
    $> cd omniORBpy-3.6/build
    $> ../configure --prefix=<path-to-your-virtualenv> --with-omniorb=/usr/local (or wherever you put it in step 3)
    $> make
    $> make install

5) Extract the examples archive attached to this e-mail:
    $> tar -xzvf corba_python_example.tar.gz

6) Switch to your virtualenv and compile the IDL file using OmniORB:
    $> cd corba_python_example
    $> workon <myvirtualenv>
    (myvirtualenv) $> omniidl -bpython philosophy.idl

7) Run the server:
    (myvirtualenv) $> python corba_server.py &
This will output the crazy corba IOR connection string you need to locate the resource. Copy it.

8) Open a python shell and execute:
    (myvirtualenv) $> python
    >>> from corba_client import PhilosophyClient
    >>> pc = PhilosophyClient("<paste_the_IOR_connection_string>")
    >>> pc.philosophize()
    "The unexamined lie is not worth living" - Socrates (470-399 BC)

    >>> pc.philosophize()
    "The world is my representation." - Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)

The philosophize() method fires off the call to the server over CORBA and prints the random bit of wisdom that's returned. You'll never use REST/JSON again ;)
