Evidence and Image Capture

Hi everyone,

Adding another post to this pile. My application keeps getting rejected, apparently because my name does not match. It does in fact match exactly on my profile, billing info, and all evidence I have tried to submit. I am online so I don't have an ID to show, which is irritating, and may be the actual problem here since I've just been taking photos of my computer screen.
Seen comments about opening a ticket for a manual review, but when I try I get a popup about how manual reviews are no longer provided. Help?

Hi @sjnoland,
Photographing your screen instead of a physical document is very likely the real issue — screen captures often introduce glare, moiré patterns, or pixel artifacts that break OCR even when the name is perfectly correct and matches everywhere else. A few things to try:

  1. Photograph a PDF/document displayed full-screen, zoomed in, with brightness turned up and glare/reflections eliminated — angle the camera slightly off perpendicular if you see screen glare, and turn off any blue-light filter.
  2. Try a different official document if you have one — even for online-only students, things like a tuition payment receipt, enrollment confirmation email header, or LMS (Canvas/Moodle) dashboard screen showing your name + institution can work, sometimes with better OCR results than a full syllabus/transcript screenshot.
  3. On the "manual review no longer offered" popup — this usually appears when you've hit a rate limit on ticket submissions, not a permanent policy change. Wait 24 hours and try opening a ticket again, or use the general contact form at support.github.com (not the in-app rejection flow) and select "GitHub Education" as the category manually.
  4. Explicitly state in your ticket that you're an online-only student without a physical ID, and that screen-photographed documents keep failing — that context matters and isn't obvious from the automated rejection alone.

If the ticket route is genuinely blocked entirely, posting your case (without personal document images) in the official GitHub Education Community discussions is the next best channel, since GitHub staff do monitor it.
