GitHub Copilot app with open pull request in view

The GitHub Copilot app is now generally available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. It's the desktop home for agent-driven development, built natively on GitHub.

Download the GitHub Copilot app to start your first session.

Start a session from an issue, pull request, or prompt. Run parallel sessions across repositories, each on its own branch and worktree. Review the diff, validate in the integrated terminal and browser, and open a pull request that uses your team's existing checks and merge requirements.

Since the technical preview, we've also added:

  • Canvases: Use bidirectional surfaces where you and the agent operate on the same plan, pull request, terminal, or browser session, so progress is visible and steerable instead of buried in chat.
  • Cloud automations: Schedule recurring agent work in the cloud so it doesn't depend on your machine being awake.
  • Bring your own model and tools: Pick the model behind each session and connect external tools through MCP servers.

Want to learn more first? Visit the product page or read the docs.

Note: To access the GitHub Copilot app on a Copilot Business or Enterprise plan, your organization or enterprise admin must have the Copilot CLI enabled in policy settings.

Not generally available yet. Still requires a paid GHC plan, and you can't sign up to one if you don't already have one at present.

Update: sign-ups now enabled. But still, it was advertised with "Access for Copilot Free users and new subscribers will be opening soon", but I notice this has gone now from the README and it requires a paid subscription. Not that Copilot Free is much use now.

I’ve officially cancelled my Copilot Pro+ subscription. Microsoft's new billing model in June proves that Copilot is now just an incredibly expensive relay station with zero technical or price advantages.

To make matters worse, their customer support is a total joke—my ticket (#4435683) has been sitting there for nearly 20 days without a single reply. Completely useless.

Hi @mdshariftarif-web , thanks for participating!

Unfortunately, we don’t currently have moderators for languages other than English. Until that changes, we need to ask that everyone use English here in the GitHub Community when posting to ensure discussions are adhering to our Code of Conduct.

We’ll be hiding this post for now, but please feel encouraged to create a new discussion in English if you still need support.

This is a massive milestone for agent-driven development! Native macOS support right out of the gate is fantastic for my daily workflow.

The addition of Canvases is exactly what was missing—keeping the context visible and steerable alongside the agent instead of losing it in a long chat history is a huge UX improvement.

I am also really excited about the Cloud automations feature. Quick question on that: Will there be a centralized dashboard within the desktop app or on GitHub.com to monitor and manage all these scheduled recurring agent tasks across different repositories?

Can't wait to test out the custom models and MCP server integrations!
