'Amazing Race' set for Vancouver debut at an iconic waterfront spot

The new season of The Amazing Race is set to debut this week, but Vancouver fans are already looking forward to next year’s edition, as the city is playing a pivotal role.
Host Phil Keoghan posted a video on his Instagram announcing that Season 39 starting line of the 15-time Emmy-winning reality competition is located in downtown Vancouver.
Keoghan greeted fans from the Jack Poole Plaza in Coal Harbour, giving viewers a sneak peek into what’s to come from The Amazing Race‘s trip to Canada.

“I’m here shooting season 39, and I promise you that’s going to be good too,” said the New Zealand TV personality, who also created and hosted shows like No Opportunity Wasted and Tough as Nails.
“The teams have literally just run away from the starting line, and I am now racing to do my introductions at the challenges and try to beat them to the pit stop.”

It is also home to the annual Vancouver Christmas Market, a popular German-style holiday event featuring over 35 food and drink vendors, more than 75 artisans and makers, live entertainment, and more.
This will be only the third time that The Amazing Race has stopped in Canada, and the first time in Vancouver.
In Season 8, released in 2005, teams flew to Montreal to try and find a clue in the Underground City by the Square-Victoria Metro Station.
In 2004, competitors in Season 5 travelled to Calgary and had to choose between a luge ride on an Olympic course or a mountain bike challenge through a snowy slalom ski course to get their next clue.
