Fernando Gaitan
Fernado J. Gaitan, Jr. is a federal judge on senior status for the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. He joined the court in 1991 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. Gaitan was the chief judge of the court from 2007 to 2014. On January 3, 2014, Gaitan assumed senior status.[1]
Early life and education
Gaitan graduated from Pittsburg State University, Kansas, with his bachelor's degree in 1970 and graduated from University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law with his J.D. degree in 1974.[1]

- 1986-1991: Judge, Missouri Court of Appeals
- 1980-1986: Judge, Missouri 16th Judicial Circuit Court
- 1974-1980: Attorney, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company[1]
Judicial career
Western District of Missouri
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Kit Bond, Gaitan was nominated by President George H.W. Bush on May 16, 1991 to a seat vacated by Russell Clark. Gaitan was confirmed by the Senate on July 18, 1991 on unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate and received commission on August 2, 1991.[2] Gaitan has served as the chief judge of the Western District of Missouri from 2007 until January 3, 2014 when he assumed senior status.[1]
