A SECOND York City player has left the club on loan today - with Paddy McLaughlin also exiting the club.

McLaughlin has dropped down to the Enterprise National League North to link up with Darlington on a one-month loan deal, as the veteran midfielder looks for game time.

The 34-year-old has not yet played a minute for York this campaign, and has only been involved in one matchday squad, which came at Hartlepool United.

He was an unused substitute on that day, and crossed the white line for City since October 2024, playing one minute in a 4-0 win over Ebbsfleet United.

McLaughlin leaves the Minstermen with 239 appearances to his name, coming across two spells, having initially joined the club in 2011.

He stayed with York for two years and was a part of the City team that won both promotion via the National League play-offs and the Isuzu FA Trophy in 2012.

The midfielder would leave York and have spells with Grimsby Town, Harrogate Town, Hartlepool United and Gateshead before returning to City initially on loan in 2019, before that move was made permanent.

He has remained with the Minstermen ever since, playing 150 times in the last six years.

McLaughlin also had a brief loan stint with Kidderminster Harriers in 2022, playing three times, and helped out in a coaching capacity under former boss Mikey Morton.

The 34-year-old joins a Darlington side managed by former City gaffer Steve Watson, previously managed McLaughlin during his time with York.

The Quakers currently occupy 17th spot, three points clear of the relegation zone, with just three wins from their opening 12 matches.

A run of just one victory in their last six included a 6-0 smashing from AFC Telford United in the Emirates FA Cup.

McLaughlin could make his Darlington debut tomorrow afternoon when Southport visit Blackwell Meadows (3pm).
