Zaha Mohammad Hadid was a highly acclaimed architect. Her designs included the aquatics center for the London Olympics; an opera house in Guangzhou, China; the Heydar Aliyev centre, a cultural complex in Baku, Azerbaijan; the Maxxi art museum in Rome; a BMW car factory in Leipzig, Germany; Vitra Fire Station in Weil Am Rhein, Germany; Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati; and a skyscraper complex in Beijing, China.
Zaha was born on 31 October 1950 in Baghdad, Iraq, the daughter of Mohammed Husayn Hadid and Wajeeha Sabonji.
She studied at the American University of Beirut and the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.[1]
In 2004 Zaha Hadid was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the first woman to receive that distinction. She won the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2010 and 2011, was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2012, and was the first woman to be awarded the Royal Gold Medal in her own right in 2016. She also received the Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the Republic of France and the Praemium Imperiale from the Japan Art Association. [1]
She was never married and she had no children.
Her estate was valued at £67 million. Family members named as heirs included four nieces and nephews and her brother Haytham Hadid.
